Shot gunning - "5-Stand"

Post by Griff »

In traveling home from Oregon yesterday, I stopped in at the SASS Founder's Ranch yesterday morning to visit with two very good friends from the early days of SASS, who happen to run the shotgun club there.

Borrowed an over-under and shot two rounds of something called "5-Stand". What a blast! Nothing earth shattering, 1st round was an 11 and the 2nd round I scored a 15. Two different courses of fire. 8 different machines firing birds in 8 different directions (go figure) and shooting from 5 different stations.

Remembering the over-under I shot with little get-together we had at Ricky's a few weeks ago, and then this experience... makes me think I need to get one. Does it ever end?

Anyway, anyone else shoot in this?

Five stand is a great sport...
its basically sporting clays without all the walking!
I love anykind of shotgun sports...
Our club has 3 trap fields, 3 skeet fields, a five stand, a practice field
and if they get a few more machines...we will so have a sporting clays course..
This sport can get expensive and addictive....and is really a lot of fun!

Nope, it never ends. Glad you had a great time. Let us know what that new over under becomes,

It's about as much fun as you can have and still be legal.

One of the ranges where we shoot, River Hills in Boonville Mo has a 5 stand coure you shoot from a deck over a ravine. Birds present everywhere from below you to above and everywhere in between. Have yet to shoot 25, 23 is a close as I've come.

This is from one of the New Years Day shoots:

I've shot 5 stand at 5 or 6 places in my lifetime and it's enjoyable no doubt !

We're going to a place tommorrow for Sporting Clays and they have a 5 stand setup as well .

I'd like to see a Sporting Clays or 5 Stand place that only threw rabbit targets and maybe some of the rabbt targets running up a ramp calling them squirrel targets (first saw that at the old Beretta gunclub in Greenbelt Maryland now Prince George's Shooting Center).
