Re: Electronic ignition!
I wondering if we ran out of primers, would it be possible to convert a rifle or pistol to ignite the powder this way. Easily and without to much modifying.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

fixed insulated firing pin that protrudes thru into the powder space. powder kept in by a paper patch loaded under the powder charge. pulling trigger puts current into firing pin, it touches off the charge. the bolt face needs to contain the back blast.
eh?

Re: Electronic ignition!
I have three Remington Etronx and about 5000 primers.
Fantastic rifles...........one is a factory 243, one a custom rebarrel to 6mm Remington Ackley and the third one a factory 22-250 (rare).
Nothing like a trigger with ZERO pull and ZERO take-up and ZERO bolt effort because you are not cocking a firing pin.
But gun folks don't like nothing new.........Witness 1911 and Mauser patent bolt actions and lever actions..............

Re: Electronic ignition!
I've done it. It is easy if there were both flint and percussion versions of the same model as you don't have to do much to switch locks (both use the same lock plate). Pull the drum and nipple and install a vent plug. So? I need to convert my percussion to a flinter? i wonder how hard that is?
The one I did had a corresponding lock, but I had to cut, drill and tap the drum to take a vent plug.
Re: Electronic ignition!
Don't know about propane, but I've launched a few things with acetylene. Tends to be a bit loud though.pwl44m wrote:#2 or how about a Propane Gun ?Nath wrote:What ever happened to those electrically fired guns?

I recently noticed that yes, I can not see it being much of a money spinner for Remington and wonder how long it will be offered and what is the gain over conventional systems?harry wrote:Remington still offers the model 700 EtronxNath wrote:What ever happened to those electrically fired guns?

Re: Electronic ignition!
The 105 and 120 main guns in our M1 and M1A tanks are electronically ignited. It could work for a handgun, but static could be a problem, dont you think? In the Tanks, we always had to be careful not to handled the ignition contacts carelessly.

Does this count as electronic ignition?:

I'm still holding out for a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

nemhed, I always liked the actor who played the clerk in the gun shop not even breaking a grin as he told the CSM 101 that what he saw was all they had.
