I would post a picture of my own; a young woman who managed to chatter away on her cellphone during the nitty-gritty part of her annual physical , but I don't take that kind of pictures...

Just wait till they all start wearing that google glass stuff. Look for new cases of brain tumors in these people wearing them in the next 10-15 years.

It's gotten pretty bad out there on the road, especially so for motorcyclists.

That said, I love my iPhone. I've been a "smartphone" user for well over a decade going back to the days of Windows CE devices like this:

It's all about knowing when to shut it off or ignore it. Seems like most kids don't/can't.

See that stuff all the time at work. I remember first seeing the Japanese walking around with cellphones years before they hit here. Americans will never be like that I thought. Woops guess I missed that one!

I second that motion !

I've only had my I Phone since last october I think , but I cannot wait until the contract runs out and I can upgrade at a sizeable savings !

When I was in the Philippines in February I bought my wife and daughter Samsung versions of the same thing . And they love them !

My daughter was well versed in it's use before I gave it to her . Her mom is like me a little smart phone challenged at first but after awhile she got it also !

The neatest thing about the I Phone was I had internet access while I was out hunting sitting in a tree for hours on end !

As a teacher - the number of times you have to tell them to put their phones away.

They are:
texting friends in other classes
Playing games.

They are self absorbed.

They say kids cannot concentrate. They can but just on the wrong stuff.

Every now and then a bus or train hits them because they are not focusing on their surrounding.

I had always made fun of cell phones, but, three years ago I got one of the first Androids that came out, and I was hooked. I just got a Galaxy II with the huge 5" screen. Kind of big for a phone, but, if fortunes fade, I could use that for going on line and not go blind looking at the small screens...

 I don't doubt it! PDAs were a big hit with doctors, and adding the phone just made it better. What would you say has largely replaced them? iPhones or Android devices or nothing?

It's not just the "younger" generation, those pictures show the new national posture; hands up, head down, oblivious stare...and I'm guilty of it sometimes.

They are anti-social devices. When I'm in a conversation with someone and they start texting, I walk away because I assume the conversation is over. That really freaks them out, because they don't understand the rudeness of what they are doing.

If I'm feeling a little ornery (I know...hard to believe, isn't it?) I'll see that bluetooth in an ear, and ask a lady if that's her Botox Pump....for a guy, it's a Viagra Pump.....

The thing that irks me the most with cell phone crowd are the ones that are in a crowded place and need to turn their phone on speaker . Like I give a .... what they or the other person have to say !

While the younger ones are kinda nerdy texting etc all the time . Atleast they're quiet for the most part . The younger white collar types have this thing about wanting to walk up beside you rather then away from you when they're talking .

I don't mind the texting, and I don't get upset when folks do it while we're in the middle of a conversation - it's a new standard of behavior, and not considered rude. That said, I can not abide those that talk on their cell, bluetooth or other, in public, like the rest of us are flower pots! You would NOT believe the conversation I was privy to in WalMart the other day......

With any luck most of them will get hit by passing buses before they can develop tumors

It is not at ALL unusual for teenage girls who are in the midst of appointments for certain things (typically depression, menstrual or contraception issues, poor grades) and have the girl sitting on the exam table texting away; if I can't get the kid to focus and engage (since SHE is the one with the symptoms), I just talk to the mom. I used to wait for the mom to tell the kid to put away her phone, but most of the time the mom won't do so, and I sometimes tell the kid to do so myself, but it just makes both kid AND mom think I'm being "rude". I've even had them continue texting while I'm trying to listen to their heart and lungs, palpate their abdomen, and other such stuff...

Teenage girls are their own unique species, I think. However I must say there is a huge range of behaviors and many are very socially appropriate - usually the home-schooled ones or the 'religious' ones. They also will focus more and converse more if mom isn't with them; I think part of why they continuously text when mom is there is to avoid having to engage with MOM... Imagine that!

Yeah I would !

Another thing that irks the F outta me is the folks who walk in your office and seem to think they need to stand behind you and read everything you are typing etc .

When I open mail be it snail or email I kinda feel like it's PRIVATE and still think it's rude when some else is standing there doing that S>>>H>>>I>>>T !

Once they get behind me I either close my laptop or tell them to get the F from behind me !

I suppose I expect to much out of the creatures we call human anylonger !

I talked to my friends when we were at school we didn't even jabber on the phone when at home !

It's no wonder young people feel isolated, alienated and do terrible things for attention and recognition. I believe what is revealed in those pictures doc posted plus the effect of violent video games are more the cause for mass shootings than any thing else.

Yep, that's pretty doggone rude. Unfortunately, grabbing their phones and tossing them into a fountain is frowned upon by the gendarmerie. :D

I cannot believe it. I had parent teacher interviews today and the Mom starting texting during the interview. Head down. Well I thought, my report on her son must have been boring her to tears. Nice to meet you - now go away!
