Prepping for August Leverguns Safari

Post by crs »

Range report from Krodle Kountry Range:
My Grandson and I practiced a bit this afternoon and his first 100 yard shot from the shooting table broke a clay pigeon we had placed in the fork of a dead weed; his reaction was that his 7mm-08 is still shooting right! His second shot cut the 10 ring in the orange bull and as he tired a bit they spread out some; all would have been a fatal heart- lung shot on a deer though.

The large holes in the x ring and just outside the orange at 9 and 11 o'clock are from my .405 fired off hand at 25 yards with the first one in the 10 ring.

Next week we will go back so he can practice closer shots off hand as when hunting the brush with our PH 86er, there are no benchrests available. :(
My 50 yard offhand shots were all OK, but a bit to the left of a 6 inch bull with only one in the black, so I plan to load up some ammo and practice both off hand and bench rest just in case Joe can not get me within 25 yards of a hog. Joe had asked me to be sure that Troupe practiced, but it seems that it is me most in need of practice. :)

That is good shooting on Troupe's part. I wish I could go this year.

Looking good. If you mess up your shot(s) we can always revert to your old nick-name again. I'm not too worried about Troupe. I will have sticks for you. You can always use the 22 Magnum and shoot for the ear-hole.

Looks like you guys are ready to go Charles. Great to see you taking time with your grandson, make sure you leave a few animals me to hunt next April. I just got my 405 back a couple of weeks ago, I am going to try it out tomorrow on some local Axis Deer.

Peter,
Wild turkey season will be open when you are here next April, so if you are interested, we may be able to work in a hunt while you are here. You can hunt them in Texas with rifle or shotgun and I am sure that between Joe and myself, we can offer you a decent selection of guns to use. I even have a combo turkey gun - .22 Hornet over 12 gauge.

Or a lever action .22 magnum:

Looking forward to your visit.

PS where has your .405 been? :?:
