Leaving on coyote hunt with unexpected suprise

Post by 95fan »

I got a call from my dad today, asking me to stop by his house. He said he had a long overdue present for me. This is what he gave me:

I bought him this blank several years ago, and he had finally gotten around to my que in the line. It is one of the most beautiful knives I have ever seen. I will never go hunting again without this one. Best of all it was just in time for the coyote hunt. :D

Good on your dad, that's a sweet looking blanket! It's hard to see though with that knife in the way. 8)

You hunt coyotes with a KNIFE? WOW! I'm impressed! :D

Congratulations on a fine looking knife. Gifts like that are priceless.

Very nice! Bet you wont even care if you get a coyote. Of course, you sure need some kind of hide to break in that pretty new knife!

The steel is ATS-34 stainless. My dad had over 20+ hours into this knife. The handles are gabon ebony lined with red paper micarta.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I would like to say that I got to use the knife skinning this past weekend, but all it got used for was cutting up my steak in camp. The wind did not stop blowing from the time we got there to the time we left yesterday. I never saw anything to shoot at, but thats why it's called hunting. All in all it was a great trip with no shooting involved.

Much farther north than that for this trip. We were out at the mojave national preserve between the 15 and the 40 in san bernardino county.

I know exactly where you're talking about but have never hunted there.

We used to hunt coyotes out near Jacumba and back along old highway 94. Mostly private land but coyotes were such a problem back then that many property owners gave their permission to hunt. When I was living in San Diego down near Imperial Beach, I used to belong to the South Bay Rod & Gun Club on Marion Rd. just off 94 and we used to hunt coyotes there too. Even with all the gunfire there on a weekend you'd still see coyotes trailing through parts of the range boundaries.
