Look What I Found Hiding
A USA made Pentax fixed 2.5x LightSeeker scope. I was going through stuff, and it was just there. I have no idea where it came from (probably from someone here). It has a duplex, with a small circle reticle. I was just wondering what scope to put on my 1894 BB .375. I believe this will do.

I've been acquiring stuff, and not using much the last ten years or so. My place looks like a hurricane went through the shooting section at Cabela's. I'm going to try and make some shelf space, and get this mess sorted out, and figger out what goes and stays....wvfarrier wrote:Sweet. I never find good stuff. Those Pentax scopes are a pretty good piece of gear, Blaine - I'm sure your BB94 will like it.
I'm just wondering how yer gonna scope it - unless it's one of those hard-to-find .375 BB94AE's.

Re: Look What I Found Hiding
Great find Griff, that should be a dandy scope for that rifle. Does that model have a tang or button safety and rebounding hammer? I remember them as made in the USA prior to the switch to Miroku.
Re: Look What I Found Hiding
Not quite, Bob.Canuck Bob wrote:Great find Griff, that should be a dandy scope for that rifle. Does that model have a tang or button safety and rebounding hammer? I remember them as made in the USA prior to the switch to Miroku.
It was once thought that only the 1st Gen (top-eject) BB94's were chambered in .375, then that chambering dropped in favor of the .307 & .356 when the BB94AE's were introduced in 1983.
It turns out, though, that Winchester continued cnambering the .375 in the 94AE for only a short while before they stopped - making the .375 BB94AE somewhat rare/hard-to-find.
Winchester discontinued every M94 in 2006, having never switched to Miroku.
It's only in the past 5 years or so that "Winchester" 94's have been re-introduced, made by Miroku.
Nice acquisition, Blaine - IIRC, that early of an BB94AE needs a different front base than later BB94AE's, one that has the mount holes side-by-side ILO inline with the bore.
AFAIK, that Weaver-type straddle base (the onlyest one made for an early BB94AE), is still available directly from Winchester - who calls the base: "radially-mounted front base".

But, no safety, no floppy hammer. The wood to metal fit is nearly perfect. Crisp checkering. The way Winchester USED to make rifles in the USA.

The scope, or the rifle? Not too likely in either case, Sir I've seen the scopes for 200-250 on the 'net...Mescalero wrote:What do I have to do to beat you out of it?

Re: Look What I Found Hiding
I still can't figure out why Winchester dropped the 94 after over 110 of continuous production. It wasn't like they weren't selling any.
Re: Look What I Found Hiding
I worked for W.R. Weaver Co. for 5 years.
Winchester and Weaver were part of Olin Corporation.
Winchester had a lot of problems that were not gun related, which resulted in a lot of management distraction.

Re: Look What I Found Hiding
Blaine, I got out in my shop today and started cleaning out the room I've been reloading in, in preparation of finishing it out into a proper reloading area.
I found all kinds of stuff I forgot I had....bags of brass, bullets....I've got enough .32-20 and .348 stuff I could fend off the entire Zombie apocalypse by myself. Now I'm more motivated to get that room ready and start taking advantage of this nice weather.
I also found skulls (with and without horns): Mule deer, ram, pronghorn, black bear, coyote...I think I need to slow down on taxidermy.

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
