With the rapidly escalating prices in the last few years, it has become difficult to find high condition original Winchesters that don't break the bank.
The last week I walked into a pawn shop and found this beauty. It is an original Winchester 1886 takedown in 33 WCF that left the factory in July of 1905. Remaining original finish exceeds 95%.
While the pawnshop owner did know it had considerable value, I was able to obtain it for significantly less than it would go for on the collector market.
Keep looking, they are still out there.

38-55,
That is nice! '86's have gone through the roof in the last 5 years and what guns are for sale have none-40% condition factors. Guns with "condition" are like most things in life--only the wealthy can afford 'em. But every now and then, even peons like myself find an acorn. (still gloating over that SA Colt) Good snag! ---------Sixgun p.s-if you shoot it, stay away from 5744 powder

She's a beauty. Is this your first 33?
I am hopelessly addicted to 1886s and 71s, and have certainly noticed the trend. It's good if you already own a few, but bad if your trying to catch up. The deals online are long gone.
I think we'll start seeing a lot more reconditioned 86s in the coming years, to fill the gap between zero-condition and $10,000. I have two right now that I will likely do some degree of reconditioning on.

No, I have a couple of others. One in the rarer full magazine configuration and the other a highly optioned deluxe model will all the bells and whistles....including double set triggers.
86's are indeed becoming unaffordable to the average gun nut. About 10 years ago you could find nice ones for less than a grand or so. Now clunkers are going for $2500 and up..... Ah, the good old days.

Thanks for those pictures, and sharing that good find with the forum. Finding a good deal on a rare caliber in a coveted rifle like that is like finding the proverbial pearl of great price. Im glad you got lucky.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

The little out-of-the-way places usually have mostly junk, but occasionally a real treasure; those are also the places where not enough 'gunnies' come by that stuff disappears fast or is high priced.
Auctions can be time consuming but likewise sometimes have good finds, especially if there isn't much other 'guy stuff' like tools and such; if most of it is old furniture and whatnot, THOSE are the ones to go to, because odds of anyone there outbidding you on 'an old gun of some sort' are less.
