Lost a 4 legged friend.

Post by piller »

My son's 15 year old German Shepherd-Boxer mix died last night. She was named Whiskers. Jarrod picked her out at an animal shelter when he was 4, and he thought it was funny that she had such long whiskers, so that is what he named her. She has been a great dog, and a loved and trusted member of the family for the whole 15 years. I hope she Rests In Peace. She has earned it. I wish I had some pictures to post, but I never thought to take a picture of her with a digital camera.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your family member.....

I saw this touching piece the other day....

Author Unknown

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said " it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

Sorry to hear. Seems silly to some that we care that much about our dogs, but maybe something wrong with me, I like my dog (and others dogs) more than I like most people. They can be big part of one's life and it no small matter. I am not much on religion, and can't speak for humans, but pretty sure all dogs go to heaven.

We dug her grave in the back yard yesterday and laid her where she could see the back door. She always watched for us to come out. I hope she approves. The soil was pretty tough and it took Jarrod and I several hours.

So sorry to hear of your losing your dog. Some never understand, but they are part of the family. I still miss all my old dogs I've lost over the years.

As for your pictures, I've had decent results taking a digital picture of older film photo prints. I take them from different distances to be sure I get one that's in focus well, then crop it to give a clean digital pic. Decent natural light helps, flash gives glare. Getting square on the edges and to the face of the print can give a good picture. We'd like to see a picture of your old friend if you can get one to work out.
"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

Isnt it amazing how many people post without reading the thread?

Very sorry for the loss of a 4 legged pal. They are the best. Like they say, "Love me like my dog loves me". I often wonder, who rescued who? Condolences, 1886.
