Pedersoli rolloing block 357?

Post by Nath »

Gents.....and Lady's of course.

Spotted a Pedersoli rolling block in 357mag, at 11lbs I am interested in how it should be slinged?

As most know if it were mine it would be hunting a lot!

Dont know what you have for craft stores on your side of the pond. But a slip on sling like the ones folks use on muzzle loaders would work. Would be an easy thing to make with a belt blank.

From the ad:
"PEDERSOLI - .357 MAGNUM CREEDMOOR RIFLE
FITTED WITH LONG RANGE SIGHTS
AS THE 1874 SHARPS RIFLE - ROLLING BLOCK - SINGLE SHOT
ACCURACY IS OUTSTANDING
THE FINEST GUN I HAVE EVER OWNED AND I AM 70 !
SOLD COMPLETE WITH CANVAS SLIP
ANY QUESTIONS I WILL ANSWER BY PHONE OR EMAIL
Price: £480 (S/H) @ US$796/€580"

That is a beautiful rifle and the price seems fair. With a 30" barrel it will be easy on the ears.

great price.
Certainly a heavy rifle, and a chore to haul around.

I have a low-wall with 30" barrel, and use a universal muzzle loader sling for it

here we go, better photos

The Pedersoli is based on the No. 1 rolling block which was a military .50.
It's an awful big gun for .357.

You might want to keep your eyes peeled for the Uberti baby rolling block (based on the No. 2 civilian small caliber action).
Possible in .357 with grizzly loads because of modern metallurgy.
With 22" barrel and scope, this weighs 5-1/2 lbs, and is a joy.

(this is another Dixie sling which is inexpensive and easy to adjust to short length http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_in ... ts_id=9963 )

It would be interesting to see if you could rechamber it to 357 Maximum, not necessarily for the higher-pressure loading, but just more powder-space, and/or longer bullets.

I believe .32-20 was the largest caliber offered in the No.2, but I can check Marcot's book at home...

easy rifle to boresight, btw

I load Hornaday Interlock .35 spitzers into .357 cases and it's pretty flat out to 100 yds.

I looked it up - they made No. 2 in .22RF and .32, .38, and .44 RF and CF

The No. 4, they didn't make larger than .32RF

Since this photo, I had a better block made for the rear - it's the receiver length and I raised it .020
