sunrise and set, is not weather, just planetary physics in action.

I'm pretty amazed at how well weather predictions have gotten in the last decade or so and the last 3 yrs in particular.

there will be more weather tommorrow

what makes me laugh is the absolute certainly the pinheads have that they can tell to a tenth of a degree what the temperature will be in 2025 if we don't stop using fuel and start living in caves. they are among the most deluded humans on the planet, but that jives with, well, you know.

Brent,

I lived on the ocean for 28 years for over 200 days per year. I can tell you with absolute certainty that the wx predictors can sometimes miss hurricane force winds, and sound incredulous when you call them with position reports.

wx predictions have gotten better, but they can still miss major storms that people at sea are trying to survive, even now.

the problem is that they think the wx has to obey their computer models.

really.

Naw, I'll leave that for you to study up on your own. Now that you are land based, you can catch up more easily.

Funny.

My old employer is me. Was self-employed most of my life and I still employ myself whenever possible.

But if you can't explain it I certainly won't hold it against it. None of the meteorologists I called could explain it either.

Sweet Blaine. You're a great guy, I'm sure. I'm also sure you are absolutely the smartest guy around and could certainly set the world straight on weather prediction science without any effort on your part at all.

But I wonder how well you do with math. I have this old equation that I like to drag out for internet experts.
Ignorance*Arrogance = Stupidity.

Maybe you will see something you recognize in all of that, being the great, natural-born scientist you are.

there are so many great hydrology tools available on the internet.
He's a post I made on the fiberglass flyrodders forum 8 years ago showing the weather tools I use to plan a fishing trip
bulldog1935 wrote:I have always said I would rather live in the TX hill country than anywhere. Why? We fish 12 mo/year, and I'm never more than 90 minutes from great fishing, no matter the weather.

we had planned a trip to fish the Sabinal below Utopia this morning.
It rained like the dickens here last night.
So I got up this morning.

First thing, checked Nexrad
There was a huge mass of rain, it was all moving east and looked like it was just skirting our fishing hole.

Next, I checked the 24-hour historic rainfall
Sure enough, it rained like the dickens, but just about all of it was east and north of our fishing hole and its drainage.

Last, I checked USGS , but especially, USGS for our fishing hole
There was a rise in the river, less than 20%, and it was already falling.
Let's do it.

Driving west we were facing the blackest of black skies. Um, well, we got to stop at Haby's Bakery and it will be a nice drive...

Image
The river was gin clear.
Really.

Dad did great at this tailout and eddy.
Image
Image
He broke off one that he said was probably 18"

Mine took, though.
Image
I fished the one-piece 2071 that Andy made for me. I hadn't fished it in a year. WHY!!??!!! This rod is FANTASTIC.

yeah, we got a little rain, but we had a blast.
Image
Here's a great site from the San Gabriel Flyfishers - the pins have links to USGS and local fishing reports
http://www.sgflyfishers.com/GoogleMapWithMarkers.html

of course right now, we're in such a bad drought that much of this good information won't apply until we get the next wet year.

Well to be frank with you, are you a meteorologist? If so, then you should say up front. By not doing so, you come across as a "jerk".
If you are not a meteorologist, then you are a real "jerk", I completely understand the gist of the conversation, predicting the weather is not always reliable or correct, so I don't give the weather forecasters much credence either.
You put your opinion out there first, so yes it's fair game for me to opine.

I'd also add that we shouldn't be too thin-skinned. Forum rules
Welcome to the Leverguns.Com General Discussions Forum. This is a high-class place so act respectable. We discuss most anything here other than politics... politely.
(Emphasis added).

I'd also add that we shouldn't be too thin-skinned. Whenever I listen to the weather predictions I always hear, stated or not, "...we anticipate or predict...", and while it MAY be more scientific than an Ouija board or crystal ball, it's still a guess, pure and simple. A guess predicated on many "ifs" cannot be construed as a certainty.

I strive for reciprocity. Bent flunked 6h Grade How To Win Debates 101....
And you flunked Creative Name Calling Class Blaine.

I'm still waiting to hear all of your oh-so-superior meterological predictions for the coming year. So far, we have "there will be weather". Yep, you're a rocket scientist.

You appear to have flunked the forum rules too. But what the heck. You are above all of that - right?

How about you, Mr. Perfect? What is your problem anyway? You seem to have a chip on your shoulder for anyone and everyone out there...
