Harbor Freight's 60" Hardwood Work Bench
OK, I'll admit it...
This isn't the nice 2" thick solid maple "cost equals 1 or 2 leverguns" woodworking bench that I used to drool over in magazines... But then again, for $140 (sale price) at the local HF store, I am pretty pleased with what I got.
Their website describes this bench saying:
"This hardwood work bench features a 60 inch top and four storage drawers, each felt-lined to help protect your fine tools. The work bench also includes a bottom shelf for larger tools as well. A wood block vise is included to enhance usability and a clear lacquer finish protects the top of your shop bench from wear and tear."
Here are some images of the bench from my cellar: The assembly wasn't too bad, and with a weight of 110 pounds, it is pretty solid. But like anything from HF (or that Country of Origin...), you have to balance price versus quality, and know that you're not getting the best materials or workmanship -- but you usually do get a low priced item. There are some tools that I wouldn't buy at HF... But for what I plan to do with this bench, small shop projects or building some bird houses for my bride, I think it will work out just fine for the money.
And now, maybe I can move all my shop projects off of my gun-cleaning / gun projects bench and then make some room to rechecker my vintage Savage 99. There, I got a levergun into this post after all!
Tight groups.

These are pretty good benches. I'm using mine as a rifle cleaning station:

Mine is far better than I thought it would be, and for the price a steal. I find it very sturdy and totally adequate for my needs.

With the price of materials and fasteners so high, it would be hard to build it yourself much cheaper than that.

For $140 bucks that's a real nice bench

Best thing I ever added to my gun room. I put it right in the middle and makes it easy for two folks to work on the same rifle. Love it!
Re: Harbor Freight's 60" Hardwood Work Bench
As long as they used dry wood it looks sturdy enough for the price.

I have an older model of it, and it is my reloading bench. They are sturdy.
