Still in Yuma in the RV resort, not much chance of shooting one here.

I can't tell from the picture, but that could be a "kinda rare" species of skunk--the hog-nosed skunk. They tend to be found mostly in desert areas and have an extended snout that they use for rooting up larval insects.

Looking at the photo again, I suspect that it's not a hog-nosed type. They usually have more white on the back.

Bet it's getting hot there in Yuma. About time to make the move back north??

I got an idea; just leave your garage door open and put a live-trap in place there. It may take a few years for the smell to go away though...!

+1. Trail it back to it's nest... if there's any babies... I want one... de-odorize it and keep in the truck for a pet... just for those cops that just "HAVE" to search it!

It's in the low 90's but that's about 10 above normal. End of April starts the high 90's, maybe 100, that makes us flee north in a hurry.

When I was a kid (you remember the time) I hung out with a guy (who lived in a trailer somewhere near Sprouts, can't remember the name... CRS taking hold @48...) that did a LOT of skunk trapping. I helped him work his traps and retrieve the scent oil.

He was the guy who introduced me to the 9mm (loaned me a HiPower...).

Anyway, Live Traps + Cat Sneeze .22 through the lungs = dead skunk + salable hide & musk...

De-scented Skunks make really good cat-like pets ... you de-scent them when you neuter/spay them (spayed females are the best...)

My cousins and I killed twentyone of them stinkers with pellet guns one summer when we were kids. Guns didn't make much noise but our moms did.
