Gentleman,
Is there any reason you can't remove a button mag original to an 1892 in .32-20 and replace it with a full size mag tube and spring. I'm not concerned about the value being diminished. I just would like more rounds available.
Thanks

Re: replacing a mag tube
Probably going to need a dovetail farther up the barrel and a slot for a pin.

Yep, a full length conversion would require a new dovetail and hanger ring. If you need only a few more rounds, you could do a 2/3 length tube without a new hanger, like I did for my 1894 Winchester:

Re: replacing a mag tube
could't you just use a band from a long tube and file a small grove for the pin?

I think that would be my approach.JOHNNY WACKO wrote:could't you just use a band from a long tube and file a small grove for the pin?

Re: replacing a mag tube
Since the Winchester button magazine metal forend cap retains the flanged magazine cap via a groove inside the FE cap, most likely the magazine cap will need to be replaced by a standard/flange-less cap (the flanged cap will space the longer mag tube a bit too far away from the barrel at the fwd end of the longer tube to allow proper hanging).Shasta wrote:Yep, a full length conversion would require a new dovetail and hanger ring. The FE cap "might" also need replacing with a standard FE cap, but I'm not sure, since I've only gone the other way (making a long mag into a button mag.
I would opine that there would be someone here that would snap up your old button mag parts (tube, tube end cap & FE cap)for their rifle.
