Re: Worm grunting?
Ive done two rods with 110 volt A/C power, clorox water, walnut husk water, and a idleing chainsaw but never tried grunting.
Re: Worm grunting?
I think I saw this mentioned in Outdoor Life magazine way back in the 60's. I thought I'd try it once, but didn't have the patience (nothing new there ). I've heard the electric method sometimes kills the worms. Maybe if you use 480V....

I cold more than double my income and because of the way the .gov has set things up I wouldn't have a dime more in disposable income than I do today.
The best "retirement" I can imagine is to be standing on the Wall when the Zombies come.

Re: Worm grunting?
Worm grunting was featured on 'Dirty Jobs' once. Looks like a way to make money for those who don't mind work.
Re: Worm grunting?
As an aside; My Grandpa retired and started a ranch. He had an estimated 25,000 head, of worms. He made some beds covered with discarded mattresses and "planted" earthworms and red crawlers. Supplemented his pension quite well.

The worm castings (manure) seem to be the best profit....mikld wrote:As an aside; My Grandpa retired and started a ranch. He had an estimated 25,000 head, of worms. He made some beds covered with discarded mattresses and "planted" earthworms and red crawlers. Supplemented his pension quite well.

Re: Worm grunting?
When I was a 8 or 9 year old kid I sold worms. I made a few bucks doing it, lived in Wisconsin near lakes and had a sign out. Once I thought I would experiment and burnt one with a match. My dad come up behind me and seen me do it. He had me feeling pretty small and I never done anything like it again. However I cant remember what he said when I come back with, Well how about running a hook through them in a couple places?
Re: Worm grunting?
I don't know what the 110v AC will do. But the 12v DC brings them right up. Not enough to kill them, just make them uncomfortable.Glenn wrote:I think I saw this mentioned in Outdoor Life magazine way back in the 60's. On bare ground sprinkle some corn meal, meal again about every two weeks keep covered with "toe" sacks or canvas, etc, keep wet. When you need them there are there.

Yep, a regular worm garden. On the plus side, push come to shove, you can eat them.mark08 wrote:On bare ground sprinkle some corn meal, meal again about every two weeks keep covered with "toe" sacks or canvas, etc, keep wet. When you need them there are there.

Re: Worm grunting?
On the Road with Charles Kuralt showed this trick many years ago. Those guys used pieces of Chervolet leaf spring that was not as heavy as the rocker these fellas have.
