I bet the monkfish swallowed the vodka and he was trying to save it - you see they keep trying to go back for something...

Blaine--Many years ago I fished for halibut with a friend who lives on Kodiak Island. We caught similar looking fish which he called "bucketmouths". Is it likely/possible this is the same species? Anyone got any information on this? Thanks!

That fish looks like the Skulpen (sp.?) that often steal your bait while fishing in the lower Columbia river Although it is a much larger fish than the Skulpens I have caught. Ling Cod have a similar head but their body is much longer.

Those guys are wearing some kind of dive suit. He must have been picking those shell fish that are in the bottom of the bag when he stuck his hand in the fishes mouth. I wander what they were looking for in the fishes mouth after he got his hand out? Maybe he lost a ring?

I believe fish's names change by the region. In southern CA Sculpin are a good eating bottom fish with venomous spines. A stick in the finger feels like a hot nail driven into the flesh. Some folks get nauseous, and lethargic, but nobody dies...

Along the west coast the Ling Cod/Lings I am familiar with are quite ugly bottom fish that will attack anything near them and have as excellent green flesh that turns white when cooked, Ummmmm, dat be good feesh!
