Beautiful!! Quite a sight for us Iowa flatlanders that mostly see corn and beans...beans and corn. And that 100+... was that the temp or the speed?.... 500 miles is a pretty good days ride I'd say, downright grueling for me! My derriere wouldn't take that.

Re: A few Pics of Columbia River Gorge
Until gold was discovered in California most of the western migration's destination was the Oregon Territory(Oregon, Washington and part of Idaho) My gggrandfather and his brother in law made an over two year journey to California and Oregon starting in 1849 from Iowa and back. They wrote only one letter the whole time describing the Oregon Territory as beautiful and "Gods Country". They went back to the Midwest and lived out the remainder of their lives on their farms. In 1923 6 months after my father was born part of the family packed up and made an over month long to Oregon, based on the family folklore of Oregon. The party consisted of my father and his sister, my father's parents and his paternal grandparents and my grandfather's brother. They traveled in a Model T house car as my dad used to describe it, a very early version of a homebuilt motorhome on a Model T chassis. Seven generations of my family have lived in Oregon now. I hope I have not bored you, but it is such an enchanting tale to me.

Love that country. When we lived in Lewiston, ID, I used to love putting the boat in and heading west down the Snake River. Looks a lot like that, I miss it greatly.

Re: A few Pics of Columbia River Gorge
Greetings
Thank you for the photos. The family history of the trip had to be one adventure back in those days. Even to go out in a Model T chugging along at 35 mph again would be something to experience. Today we cover that so fast on the interstates we know little of real life. The smells, the new vistas around each corner, listening to the sounds of life... all lost at 75 mph.
Happily Jim Fulton & I did a 6 week long motorcycle trip in 1970. That was a highlight of a younger life.

Great photos and a worthwhile trip. Know you must have enjoyed your day!

The "Mustang" seat makes a 500 mile day if not comfortable, at least very doable.....GoatGuy wrote:Great photos and a worthwhile trip. Know you must have enjoyed your day!
