Deer Hunting Success ...Stuck In MO
Well....Took the old 1906 Winchester Model 94 out on Saturday to fill the freezer with Venison. Not 20 minutes in my stand and a nice tender doe wandered by. One shot with the 32 Special at a measured 114 yards / iron sights and she dropped like a sack of flour. 170g bullet at 1400fps did the job.
Been chasing a beautiful 10 pointer with amazing white rack for the last few days. His rack looks like it is electrified! But he won't give me a shot everytime I see him.
Today we are stuck in the camp. Raining so hard the little stream that runs across the drive is flooded to a depth of about 4' and running like the Colorado river! We might take the backhoe out and attempt to cross a bit later!
We got invited to a nice home cooked meal at the neighbors down the road, but unless we can cross the stream we'll be eating leftovers!
Loving it!

Mom nature is being a real rough cob this year. I have standing water places where I never saw it before. Be careful.

Good on you! That old rifle is a dandy special order everything gun. If some knothead just hadn't drilled and tapped it, that gun would be worth some big bucks!! (I know, in 1906 it was just another tool). It's sure fun to take game with an oldie that the AR-15 aluminum crowd has written off years ago. I got all my deer with a long tang 71.

Re: Deer Hunting Success ...Stuck In MO
I've been told by some Winchester collectors that the drilled and taped holes might have been done at the factory. I'm going to get it "lettered" by Cody museum next week.
Thanks

Congrats on your success thus far. Looks like our rain is over. I'll be trying to wade out to my deer stand again this evening.

Well, I didn't get the 10 pointer. But my two hunting buddies scored big time! I had the bottom deer in my sights, but I had my Thompson Contender pistol and it was 217yds away. I was in a tree stand in a 25mph wind and couldn't keep it in the scope! I climbed down to try and stalk it but it moved into a small patch of woods that I didn't want to access for fear of spooking it. Two hours later it emerged right in front og my buddy, Paul! Bang..hunt over!

From the blue sky in the bottom picture I guess the weather turned off much nicer finally. And you fellows had one great hunt!
And what a fine old rifle!

Roy looks like a great trip over all. I wouldn't mind being stuck in an area that produced bucks like that!
What bullet did you use? I love the Hornady flat point in my 32, but this year I purchased a NOE mold with the changeable nose punches and I would of hunted with it this year if I had more time. My first run of bullets were to hard and I was afraid they would pencil through.
