I think you may need help from one of the guys here that have the Quickload program.
Where are you getting 300 grain bullets from?
Tell us more on the thoughts of using the heavier bullets.

Check older Handloader articles. There was once a writer that wrote for them and he wrote an article on 348 cast loads that included one that went ~300grs. He loaned me the mold for quite some time (really long sucker) but I never got around to casting any from it. He eventually came around and wanted it back. He did get some good loads with it. I personally think that is going a tad too heavy but whatever works.

I set out to see what QuickLoad says about such a loading, but my version of QL is real pitiful in the 348-cast bullet department -- shows one 63 grain roundball. I'd need data such as bullet length and COAL to get started.

from Snooky Williamsons book he has data for a 270 gr cast from a lyman mold 350482 with #2 alloy and pushed with 45 grs of 4350 for 1855 fps. danny

Like BigSky mentioned, my favorite "heavy" bullet is 350482. In WW metal it does come out pretty heavy. Long before I officially new better, I squeezed the diameter on the -482 down to .340 and paper patched back up and sized again in a .350 and that was one wicked load and the most accurate load I ever tested in my original deluxe. It would print 1 to 1.5" all day when the rifle wouldn't put jacketed in much better than 3.5".

That's consistent with the estimate from a Powley Computer. It reckons about 47 gn of 4831 or perhaps 4350 should make about 1950.

Using it's estimate of the bullet length over in QuickLOAD gives a more optimistic fps, with estimates of 47 of 4350 or 49 of 4831 giving about 2050 fps.

Both assume the bullet can take SAAMI pressures and a 24" barrel.

Given the published load BigSky56 has, I'd say QL is overly optimistic but 1900 is likely viable, if the alloy can take that sort of pressure. You might start with 4831 and if you can't get that speed on reaching a full case, then back off and try 4350.

What is it you intend to slay with that load? It's getting close to what John Taylor used on a few elephants.

I've got a LOT of 348 load data, but nothing over 250-255 grains.
