OT reloading advice needed

Post by dkmlever »

I have a 1961 300 Weatherby, Mark V custom that has a 1 in 12 twist rate, which bullets would work the best when reloading with this twist rate?

My guess is up to 170 - 180 grain ?

God bless

yeah, I'd say you'd be good up to 200 grains - the twist used in most 30 calibers is 1:10 and they can handle bullets up to 250.

And that cartridge is pushing them out pretty fast, so that helps too.

If you want "more bullet" just go with an X bullet.

Match the bullet you wish to shoot to the game you intend to hunt and wring her out. When I think of the .300 Wea., I think of 200gr premium bullets at 3000fps. Should work fine. Please let us know. Regards. 1886.

Thanks guys for the response, I will let 1886 know how it does. I am starting with the Nosler 200 gr Accubond and gearing it toward an elk hunt this fall.
Just a side note, this gun was brand new in the box from 1961, with notes from Roy Weatherby and the original and only owner asking for some small changes like a custom trigger and the intragal Pendelton brake. It was given to me for my 50th birthday by my best friend who got it off the original owners nephew who got it when he died but did not want it.

That is a good story. Could that rifle have some historical/collector interest due to the father Weatherby connection? 1886.
