Kinda looks like a Marlin BLR?
Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
I am all for it. I am hoping (and have sent email) it is chambered in 338 Fed in the future.

Missed the above post, Malamute - Thanks.
Yooper - great info. This looks like a great idea. Oh, for an extra thou in my pocket just to grab one of these. I believe that this Henry will really take off, especially since you don't have to reach to the end of the barrel to load it.
Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
Or, you could prolly find a ugly Mdl 88 for half that. It would prolly shoot just fine.JohndeFresno wrote:Missed the above post, Malamute - Thanks.

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
It certainly isn't the ugliest levergun I've seen.
It will be interesting to see how it holds up against the BLR.

I don't mind its looks too much but it would look better with some decent iron sights.
If I was wanting something to fire pointy bullets I would consider it.
Looking forward to some (more) honest reviews.

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
I have always been interested in a levergun that fields the powerful 30-06 or .308 missiles. What seems impressive with this entry is its reported lockup, which may bring accuracy even closer to that of a bolt action.BlaineG wrote: Or, you could prolly find a ugly Mdl 88 for half that. I haven't read all the writeups, 'cause I'm out of the market, anyway. At least for the next year.

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
If I really need an accurate long range gun, I'll get a bolt action (I started out on them).
That said, it doesn't look bad. Set up with irons, preferably an aperature, in .308? I'd probably buy one as a handy medium range piece.
Curious to see how it disassembles. Anytime you start talking about gears, etc.....that's not going to be fun to clean.

Y'know list price isn't what it'll go for.
May bring accuracy closer to a bolt?
It's there.
Easier to break down than the Browning.
Honest review?
What I gave here weren't honest?

Apologies for not carefully checking Page 2 of your thread, Denis, where you documented shooting results.DPris wrote:May bring accuracy closer to a bolt?

Amazing! This is an exciting breakthrough for levers - a magazine which allows spitzers but also an all steel, multi-lug mechanism for consistent lockups and enhanced accuracy. I would say that this mitigates the higher expense.
Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
It's not a gun for lever-action traditionalists, it's not a bolt-action, and it's not a tactical gun.
It IS a well-made and accurate levergun in actual & useful rifle calibers that can easily handle 300-400 yard terrain IF it appeals to you.
If it doesn't, it doesn't.
My comments have not been intended to sell either the product or the concept, just to pass on info for anybody interested.
Lotta people dislike the Henry brand for various reasons, but the company has put quite a bit into this model & it simply breaks new ground for them.

They price out about the same as the BLR. Just looking at them, I like the BLR better.....

Of the two, if I were going that route, I'd prefer the Henry with one-piece threaded barrel & easier breakdown.
The Browning can be a bear to take apart & get back together again.

Yeah, but it could be. That gun is just begging for a tapered octagon barrel and Schnabel Tip forewood.

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
This is a great new initiative. It is welcoming when the marketplace introduces exposed hammer levers. The lever is the finest hunting rifle. Having a removable mag, high intensity cartridge, designed for a scope makes a dandy modern leveraction rifle.
I love my traditional levers but this will appeal to a lot of hunters. I once owned a 243 BLR. It was a dandy deer rifle but my preference for anything bigger than coyotes became the 444.
I for one like it. If I hadn't bought a 223 awhile ago that one would interest me.

I like it. That .308 would make a good elk rifle in the woods with the 20" barrel.
Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
Savage figured out how to make one without an external hammer in 1899.....
It's not exactly a new idea.

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
Henry MSRP is $1014.95, the BLR Lightweight MSRP is $959.99. The Henry weighs 7 lbs. even, the BLR Lightweight 6 lbs. 8 oz. I do believe the trigger on the Henry DOES NOT disconnect and swing down with the lever like on the BLR thus remaining in the frame while lever is work which I think is a good thing making fine tuning of trigger pull less problematic.
I prefer my leverguns with an exposed hammer. I like Henry's transfer bar safety hammer better then the BLR flip safety mounted on hammer. I like them both but personally I think the Henry "Long Ranger" looks cleaner (trigger/lever & magazine) and more traditional. I do wish Henry would add open sights to their product though. An XS, Williams WGRS, or Skinner Sight on the receiver with a Firesight front bead I could live with.

I got it.....they are lever actuated bolt action rifles. .
Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
Well, bless Henry for this, it's in interesting new development.
I'm waiting to see a bigger magazine and larger caliber.
As far as the former, if Henry doesn't do it, with today's injection molded technology someone will jump on the opportunity.
As far as the latter, I can see this as a test production. If the demand is there, larger calibers and variations are coming. Octagon barrel easy enough to do. Action length? How hard will it be to stretch it out to .30-06 length?

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
This is a first step, and the gun IS intended to challenge the bolt-action market in accuracy, which it easily does.
Henry didn't bring it out strictly for already-levergunners, they want to convert boltgunners here & there, too.
Sights, as mentioned, are a strong possibility with an altered stock version as an alternate down the road if this takes off.
Other calibers are possible, but don't expect too many "fringe" calibers.
I also would not expect extended mags from Henry.
In my case, I wouldn't want one on this rifle, it carries well with that flush steeler already in it & anything else would clutter up the lines & get in the way of my hand during ground carry.
Denis
I keep forgetting to mention the free-floated Henry barrel.

I wish Henry luck with sales as competition is always good.
To my eyes, when comparing the Henry to the Browning, the Henry looks less graceful and too heavy.

Just got confirmation a long-action WILL be coming out, time-frame not known.
Exact calibers also unk, but I'd think a .30-06 should be among the first.

Re: Henry announced thier BLR-esque rifle
I see people spending $600 on pistol-caliber and medium-range leverguns, so asking a bit more for one that is long-range, well-made, American-made, and could easily replace a 308 bolt-action, and a 30-30 levergun, isn't all that big a deal to a hunter who simply wants a powerful, accurate, rifle, that is way faster than a bolt-action. Those guys aren't impressed by the word "Winchester" (and never heard the word 'Japchester' but don't like foreign-made stuff) or any nostalgia; they just want a deer-rifle that doubles as a military-cartridge-shooting home defense rifle. WE would want a Winchester 30-30, Savage 308, Ruger Scout rifle, and an 1895, then maybe an ugly AR, but there are many who just want one or two guns in a 'military' cartridge, so might well spring for the Henry.DPris wrote:It won't go that low.

Does anyone else think that the looks would be improved with a set of iron sites ?
And a set of iron sites should be included for the price!
At least a dovetail for the rear?
Also for a rifle retailing over $1000 should not the toe of the recoil pad follow the lower line of the butt stock !
