Life Below Zero Question

Post by rock-steady »

Anyone noticed Sue Aikins revolver with the shoulder stock attached? It looks like a really long barreled N or possibly X frame S&W. I would like to know the specifics I. e. barrel length, chambering and shoulder stock mfg. I thought putting a shoulder stock on a handgun was a no-no.

I think it can be made legal with the proper paperwork and tax stamp. Also I think the barrel is over
16". Interesting, but I believe there are much better choices for her aplication.

I noticed she got the revolver because she couldn't shoot off her right shoulder because of an injury. Said she didn't have a left handed rifle so she had to get rid of her Marlin lever ?????????? Can't shoot a lever off the left shoulder I guess.(Ya learn something new everyday)

Dang I've been doing the impossible for decades. Maybe I should have my own show about the impossible use of rifles and handguns. Now if I could only get a sponsor...

Do not know who Sue Aikens is, but anyone that cannot shoot a lever gun right AND left handed just is not trying.

Pistol+stock=SBR, you need Fed paperwork.

Maybe it's an eye dominance issue. I know people who absolutely can NOT shoot with their left eye only such as with rifles. I shoot pistols either hand, either eye for quals, and do it well, most are not me. I can shoot rifles lefty, though not as well as right handed....not everyone can.

No BATFE paperwork or tax stamp needed, if the barrel is over 16" in length.

You just have to be careful about the placement of your support hand...

There it is.

It's not an SBR (short barrel rifle) unless the barrel is less than 16" or OAL of 27"

It was sold as a handgun and made into a rifle. you get in trouble going the other way.
and if it was sold as a handgun it can be made back into a long barrel handgun with a detachable stock

She still has the marlin, it was hanging by the sling on a nail in the wall by the door in the last show. I think her shoulder is too messed up to shoot a rifle and this was the package they came up with for her at the gunstore.

The show isn't about guns, it's just some folks living in out of the way places in Alaska. A few things I've seen are questionable, firearms wise, and none of the "players" claim to be gun experts. Plus being a TV show, every little thing is "over dramatized" to make it more interesting. Following someone around in the forests, on the rivers in Alaska would be pretty boring without a director stressing, adding "drama" to the insignificant every day stuff...

Like if they followed me around; "Oh no, Mike has to drive around the block to get a close parking space at Freddies!" "Can he make it before the donuts get stale?" "Will this cause him to miss picking up his Sunday-go-to-meeting pants 'cause the cleaners has closed?". And all this while I'm explaining my moves/motives to the camera..

One of the subjects on "The Last Alaskans", a like show, is always walking around with an older Winchester 1895. I have not been able to see what caliber. Betting on a 30-40.

IMO the "Last Alaskans" is the only tolerable of the living in the north shows. At least the first years episodes there wasn't "too" much added drama. Hope they don't muck it up (like Life below Zero and Living Alaska) the second season. Also pretty sure that the guy with the M95 can be seen loading 35 WIN cartridges; which would be a first rate caliber for Alaska.

"Life Below Zero" was on again a couple nights ago and I noticed Sue's gun. I had a pretty long barrel for a revolver, prolly the needed 16". The cylinder was light colored, either stainless steel or coated and the frame looked black, not a metallic black/blue but seemed to be a flat black. Only got a couple glimpses.

I've been watching these shows the last two or three seasons and all the folks seem to have upgraded their equipment (income from the shows?). The feller that had the '95 is now shooting a Marlin type, large lever, ss levergun. The "Last Alaskans" feller, Elmo was hunting with a very new looking rifle. I can't really discern what stuff they are using because the firearms aren't talked about or shown, just glimpses of them in passing...

Does anyone who's serious about guns really take their advice or info from what they see on "reality TV"? Reality TV is a far from the real world as sci fi is! It's total BS, and the last place I'd turn to for firearms information, or examples.

In an early episode they said the Win. 95 fired " .33 caliber ammo" . Was there ever such a round made by Winchester?

Who was "they"? Was it the guy with the gun or the ubiquitous background voice over idiot? The answer is no, there never was a 33 anything in the model 95. There was a 33Win in the later model 1886 that was very popular. I have never seen an 86 in the show but I don't watch all of them so maybe they were talking about a different rifle. I do know that the 95 was a popular although not numerically common rifle in early 20th century Alaska. The big brown bear that greeted visitors for many years at the Anchorage airport was shot with a M95 in 405.
