New (to me) Levergun

Post by lever-4-life »

I have been doing some tree work for an older neighbor of mine for some time now. He has always been very nice to me and my family so I didn't think anything of it when he asked me to cut and split a couple trees that had fallen this winter. I finished up the last one, a monster (140' doug fir) and was loading the saws and cables into the truck when he came out of the house with a rifle. He asked me if I wanted it! He told me that is father had bought it back in the 20's and had it has been with the family ever since. He told me a great story about a 4-point (10-point eastern count) blacktail that his dad killed with the rifle from the breakfast table!

Anyway heres the good stuff, Its a winchester 92 SRC in 25-20 my favorite caliber! It has an old lyman peep on it along with the stock latter sight. I cant wait until next fall now!

I truely believe that when a man does something good, it will come back to him. The same goes for rotten people in the reverse. You done real good by cuttin' up the man's tree and you never expected anything. A 12-1500 rifle just came your way.-------congragulations! :D ------Sixgun

This is a true observation what sixgun points out. In Abilene,Ks was an elderly woman who couldn't get to the grocery store any longer, she didn't drive. She rode a cab once a week to get food. Then she called the cab again to get back home. One time a man who worked in the store noticed this, offered to take her home and help carry in the bags of groceries. He told her to call him next time, and he would try anyway he could to help her, and save her the cab fare. Not long afterward she died, and left him in her Will one square block of vacant land and a big house she lived in. All this right on the edge of the main part of town. Her daughter and son-in-law lived close by, but was always too busy to help her. The guy inherited about 250 thousand dollars worth of property for "Just being nice to an old Lady"

yep, what goes around, comes around. Way to go!

So, you gonna be shooting cast bullets or Rem flat noses? Or other?

I've got a nice old Savage bolt gun a "sportsman" with detachable 5 round mag. I've been meaning to take it to the range to check the new rear sights I installed. I load 86 grain Rem flat nose bullets that I got on sale from Midway.

IIRC they go around 1800 fps or so with my chosen load.

I'd figure you intend to go for a head shot? That, or shoot within 50 yards or so.

The 25-20 can and has taken deer, but it requires staying within the limits. :)
