Arrrrgh....I Just Want To Vent A Little....

Post by Blaine »

I was divorced in '96, and notified the VA of that. In 2012, they updated my account, and added my Ex to my claim all on their own. Since I was getting a decent increase, I didn't notice the extra 50-some dollars.
Now, they want it back. About 3200.00  It's not going to be a tragedy, or anything, but it will drain away some IRA that I hadn't planned on using yet. Man, I hate dealing with the VA. Almost more trouble than they're worth.  I'm going to see if they'll spread it out over a year or so.....

They should have to take it back in the same amount per month and in the same number of months that they overpaid you., but I think that they will probably not do that, just demand it all in one payment

Government types seem awfully unconcerned the plight they put citizens into by their lackluster attitude/job performance. Rant off.

My horribly liberal Senator, Patty Murray, has been known to take up the cause for Veterans.....We'll see....

That's the kind of pelosi that burns my azz.....I personally know (Don't hang with!) several individuals who keep crapping out kids to get that extra "bonus" every month and they spend the money on fun things. Our vets just don't get the same treatment.

I'd write them a letter just to buy some time as when Donald becomes the pres., he might drop all that stuff with the vets owing back money.---6

That kinda stuff is exactly why you have state reps. The VA will not listen to you as an individual however if your state rep is as good as some of ours, not all by a long shot, they will ask to see the paperwork and talk to some one up the ain of command. Works sometimes. At this point you have nothing to lose.

VA billing is a royal PITA !

They've billed me for multiple co-pays that had accumulated over several years  - about 2 weeks before Christmas !

For about 5 years between 2004-2012, I must had dropped into some sort of audit category, as I was continually mandated to provide ALL my financial info, upon pain of losing my VA benefits.

Resistance is futile. They will start withholding my pension in Feb. '17 until it's paid back....

What I don't understand, and hopefully DAV, or my Senator will explain, is this: I'm retired Army, and every penny of my VA comes off the top of my Army Retirement. The only advantage is that when the VA gives it to me, it's tax free. Sooooo, if the VA wants it back, the dang Army should give it to me, right? Evidently, it's complicated.

I have to say that for a Liberal thing, Patty Murray responded in under 24 hours offering to have this looked into...She supports horrible laws, but has always looked after vets.....

Lessons like that one have taught me to read my paperwork very carefully. Especially government paperwork.

Lessons like that one have taught me to just avoid doing any business that is avoidable with those particular bastids.

I can do without the 'benefits' versus having those fingers in my pot.

F 'em.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I completely understand. Had I got out after a couple hitches like you, I could have made tons more money in heavy equipment, or sales. Some of us actually enjoyed our military life, and trusted that the Gubment would honor their promises.....Maybe the next few years will be more favorable to vets, and military retirees....
