Poor little Canary
I`ve been collecting miners safety lamps lately, we made this copy of what they would carry down in the mines to check for dangerous gasses.

Another cool project, Pitchy.
I'm not claustrophobic at all, but I can't imagine following those miners back in the day. They had some big ones!

BROWN LABS MATTER !!
Re: Poor little Canary
Have a deal with them, they sing or no conjugal visitations.

Re: Poor little Canary
Hey Pitchy.....I know one place that canary would drop dead at the smell of gas......either in the tent at elk camp or down in my gunroom after a meal of cabbage, broccoli, flat beer, and deer jerky. ----6

Re: Poor little Canary
Lenn, you made a great job on those canary's. I saw the real thing on Monday, I went to a mining museum near Newcastle with my son and his wife, they had canaries and the biggest collection of mining lamps I've ever seen.

Re: Poor little Canary
Nice project, Pitchy. I was not aware of those safety lamps, but then 99 percent of the mining out West here was for gold.
Looking at the shape of your canary, I had to half wonder whether, with eye hook and swivel in the beak and a treble hook in the tail, those birds would troll.

Pitch, put a muskie in the Pitchy pond and lessee!
Re: Poor little Canary
Cool. I think a bass down here in Texas would eat one of those canaries.

I moved to WV in 1979 and ended up taking the mine safety class to become an apprentice miner. I never could find a job though so I never got to go underground. The old timers called those a possum lamp. All the mines in WV are considered HOT, meaning they have gas. A possum lamp is much more reliable than any modern gas sensor that has to be calibrated.
Those look nice Pitchy.
