Card File For Gun Records-?? Software ??

Post by oldmax »

I had a simple program on Linux that I could create a card file program,
It prompted you to fill in Fields and created a 'Card' file for each record , also allowed a spread sheet print out.
Alas, Linus has crashed, and no time to recreate,
SO, Anyone know of a free Program that provides that function.

Do you have a spreadsheet program? You have a simple database right there. I use Access because I can create reports I want but a very simple spreadsheet would really do just as well.

Judging by some of the other threads, perhaps the easiest way would be to see if the guv'mint alphabet agency folks would let you tap into their database - they probably have all our records handy...

On a Linux system you could use Kexi. This is like MS Access and can even read MS Access data files.

Or use Open Office Spreadsheet.

I use Excel as well to track my personal collection. It is worth an investment in taking a course at a local community college if you are not comfortable with the program (I use it a lot for work). You'll be amazed at everything it can do!

I use a program called Pointblank which I downloaded off the net as freeware a couple years ago, it may suit your needs.
It includes load index cards, a ballistics calculator, recoil calculator and other functions.
Check it out at

I have Pointblank too but just never used it much. It might indeed be better for you, i.e. more what you're looking for. Good call gundownunder!

What was the name of the linux program, and what crashed, the os, the hardware?

you can boot linux from the optical drive and do data recovery that way. knoppix is very good that way, it will run in memory.

Thanks, but Linux is long gone,
I down loaded Open Org, Found a method , but beyond my ability and
desire to learn right now.

Can't remember the program, It was very simple,
The program asked for the Field name, Than number of char's required.
You just kept inputing Field names. when done, Save with a Program name.

To execute, Start program and it prompted you to fill out fields for a
Data Card, Very easy,,,,,, But, alas, It's all gone...
I hate Windows..... Someday, back to Linux....But right now, shooting
has precedent..

Thanks all.
