My BIL asked me to sell 8 of his guns..
and one is a 1976 1894 unfired, in box with hang tags...catalog #9412 and I'm thinking about maybe buying it. He got this one from his FIL who purchased a new car in 1976 and the dealership gave away a lever gun with the car purchase. What would be a reasonable offer? There is also an Eddystone 1917 sporter I'm looking at, although I have 2 already.... Thoughts?

There were a few different automobile makers (Ford, Chevrolet & Dodge) who had that type of deal going on in the 70's - but they're not often come across.
NIB/unfired = $500-$600 IMHO - which is higher than a BIL price.
What are the remaining 6 guns ? (someone here might be interested, so take some pics & post them in out classified's section.)

I'm a thinkin' you're talking about a Winchester mdl 94, not a Marlin 1894... right? A fair offer for both of you would be at least $5-600. Unfired with box and hangtags should bring a bit more... than a "shooter"and if you're only looking at it as an investment... then you should be willing to pay more. But, hey... it's family and and you want it for shootin', right? An offer of $3-400 would still be fair.
All bets off if the car is included in the deal... that depends mostly on just what make/model car!!

I could be mistaken, but IIRC, the deal for Dodge's was for a P/U truck - IDK about the other makers.

Several of these I've never heard of, but might make a good restoration project for father/son. The 22's are rough.Pete44ru wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 4:02 pmWhat are the remaining 6 guns ? True, a buddy still has both.

FYI: Some of those are what's referred to as "store/house branded" guns - guns made by major manufacturers (for the most part), for US retail chain stores (Sears, J.C. Penny, Western Auto, etc, etc) in the 1960's 70's & 80's, with lesser quality (finish, wood, etc) than the guns in the various manufacturer's normal retail lines.
The Hiawatha .410 = Savage 94
The J.C. Higgins .22 = Marlin
The Golden West .243 + Savage 110
The Glenfield 60 = Marlin 60

Why wouldn't or couldn't it be a Marlin 1894?

Because catalog #9412 is Winchester's number for a standard Model 94 carbine w/20" bbl.
