Original rear sight for Win94 1923 vintage
Gentlemen: A friend has purchased a 1923 94 Win .32 Special with an octagon barrel. It has a peep sight installed and is missing the original barrel open sight. He would like to find an original to replace the empty dovetail on his gun. Any suggestions as to where to look and what to look for would be greatly appreciated. My 94 knowledge is limited.

Well, IMO he’ll have to remove the peep if he wants to put a factory sight on. They do not work together. I don’t know if fold down rear sights were offered that vintage.
I always take a lead 22 bullet and use a brass hammer to gently pound it into the dovetail. Super easy and looks great.

The original rear barrel sight for that rifle was quite different from those of other calibers. Here is a picture of it:
As you can see, it is very large and not conducive to use with a receiver or tang sight. The best solution would be to install a dovetail blank filler such as one of these:
The one on the left is a standard filler as sold by Marble's. The center one is an old original designed for an octagon barrel that I got at a gun show, and the one on the right is one I made from an old broken rear barrel sight. The double diamond look of the right one is my favorite.

Good to hear from you Shasta!
Yup, those "Smokeless Sights" are pretty obtrusive.
I like the diamond fillers too. I make them for my rifles also.

"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
