Win M1892-- action closes with slight difficulty

Post by hiram »

On closing the action, the last inch of lever movement is firm. The collar at the end of the spring on the ejector keeps slipping off the shoulder. Would the collar slipping off cause difficult closing?? Does anyone have the inside and outside diameter of the collar??

What shoulder are you referring to. The collar doesn't ride on a shoulder. it rides on the front of the lever. It is there to prevent the ejector spring from wearing on the lever. Are you saying it slips off the guide piece there on the bottom of the bolt while trying to assemble the bolt back into the receiver.

The collar stays on the guide(pin) but it seems like it is suppose to hang up on what I call a shoulder (a downward bend) which is a 90 degree hook on the ejector. Is the collar suppose to stay hung up on the on this? It slides off the hook(shoulder). I don't know if this is right or wrong. I am thinking this collar may have been replaces and the hole for the pin is to large.

Thanking you for your response.

Yes. That can happen if the collar doesn't stay straight.

I don't remember what I did the first time but I'll bet Steve's video has good instructions for assembling. While you still have it apart get his ejector spring, it's softer. I used a spent case to compress the ejector on the bench then fed it into the receiver. Probably will take a couple tries. When it's all compressed the collar can't get cocked on that step in the strut.

Don't be like me. Get Steve's video and springs.
