Drop in?

So, all the recent threads have me thinking that it would be great to get a .45 ACP cylinder to go with my short-barreled Uberti Cattleman in .45 Colt. Does anyone have any experience buying a .45 ACP cylinder after the fact? Would it truly be a drop in, or require a lot of major fitting?

Ive bought 4 Ruger cylinders and they all fit perfectly. I'm assuming Uberti uses cnc machining too.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

All I know is that my Ruger Blackhawk swaps cylinders easily and is plenty accurate. If Uberti rotates the same direction, then it is worth a try.

I just installed a 44 Special cylinder in a Uberti .44/40 Model-P (Cattleman) sold by Cimarron. You will have to fit the ratchet end to set cylinder gap, and you will have to fit the cylinder bushing. It is not a simple drop-in. Done correctly you can come out with a nice tight cylinder.

Yep, the Uberti is not a Ruger. I read some stuff today that indicated fitting would be required. Sounds all the work is done to the new cylinder though, so I can then flip back and forth between the original new one. Granted, easier to just get a gun with both cylinders already included, but I already have this one!
