Ok...true story and no, won't confirm it. During the LA riots, police were teamed up with Nat. Guard. While responding to a call in Knickerson Gardens, PD went in and told Nat Guard to "Cover" them as they went in. Cover in police talk is watch over with a weapon in case needed. Cover in military lingo may have been confused wiith 'cover fire". Someone opened up with what may or may not have been a M60!!

Apparently, whoever wrote that bit is behind the times. To secure a building to the USAF is to put a laser guided weapon on target thus obliterating the entire building and its occupants.
This is done without significant risk to the personnel involved and allowing then to have a cold beer along with a nice steak dinner. Not to mention prodigious amount of available female company

In the Navy, "seaman" is a rank.
In the Army it is an MOS.
