Re: OT: Batter Up!!
Man, there just ain't nothin' mouth-watering about catfish before they're on a plate, is there?
Nice catch!
Nice catch!
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I like catfish but am always too lazy to fish them myself. Store bought is ok for the most part, but there is just something about getting it fresh.

Nice!
I haven't been cat fishin in ages,
Here is a pic of my best day fishin cats (not to steal your thread,
but a reminder of a day in the 80s).

Batter, hmmmm fried catfish.
Those are some big ones. I like to skin and fry little guys maybe 12-16 inches, skin 'em, pop the heads, rinse, batter and drop into the fryer. ohh I think I may have to go to my favorite little hole today or tomorrow.

Be careful to buy either wild caught American fish, or American Farm-raised Catfish. I don't trust the ChiCom produced catfish, or any other food product for that matter.
In case you haven't heard, ChiCom fish have been recalled several times in the last couple of years due to food-borne illnesses. The ChiComs have lower water quality standards than we have here in the USA, and neither is the feed monitored as closely.
So if you are buying fish, especially catfish, buy American Farm-Raised Catfish, preferably Mississippi Farm Raised Catfish, or don't buy fish at all.

I use to run a commercial catfish trotline. I was never hungry. Boy does that bring back memories. It was a simpler time. Trap line during the fall and winter, trotline during spring summer and fall. Money from the harvest going to suppliment my meager part time work.

Is this the kind of noodlin' you're talking about? I put 50 of these out each weekend in the summer baited with small bluegill. I have caught some nice flathead cats.kimwcook wrote:Catch'em on line or did you go noodlin'? Crazy noodler's.

Delicious though they are; As fishies go......Catfish are the ugliest critters I've seen, and just creep me out.

They look a whole lot prettier after a dusting with cornmeal and float in hot grease!

I used to love cat's until I worked with a guy who grew up on a catfish farm. He wouldn't touch them -- and his endless stories turned my mind against them. Give me crapi and perch any day...
