If you guys can figure a way to send me one of those 444/94's up here, without me actually having to spend money, I'd be glad to test it for you for a few decades. :) In my crazier youth I did a lot of stuff with the '94 that it isn't supposed to be able to do. This was with a 1971, version, just ou...

I don't doubt the kid believed what he was saying. Guys gossip more than women sometimes, and are often just as gullible. Read it on the internet, so it must be true! :) I think most issues with firing lead in most firearms can be resolved with some head scratching, and a bit (ok maybe a lot) of exp...

As the others have said, cartridge stop. The little tit at the front of the lower link. I also have a 1971, mines in 30-30, I bought it new in 1971. Mine is one of the first after Winchester woke up and stopped putting in stamped parts. (Lucky me) A friends '94, of the same year has stamped parts. H...

Sad part is that carry of a handgun for personal protection is not legal up here. The folks in charge will say it can be done, and a very few permits do exist, but for the average person, nope, not gonna happen.
I hope you guys can keep the anti-gun nuts at bay south of the border.

H-110 doesn't really "go to work" in straight-walled revolver cartridges until pressures climb above about 35,000 psi, and works best with heavy-for-caliber bullets.. Noted the same thing. As some of you know, I sometimes play with stuff I should not. One such thing was H110 in the 38-40 ...

Re: Case Separation - What are the causes?
Looking at the pics, I doubt you have a pressure issue. Most likely it's headspace. Extruded primers, that is primers that are pushed out of the back of the case, (not flattened) won't happen unless there is room there for it to happen. Again, headspace . In a straight walled case like the 45-70, I ...

The setup I used on my 92 Winchester was a lot more primitive. I used a couple of blocks I made from limbs off a Walnut tree in the yard for the barrel, and used a very large Monkey wrench on the action. Numrich has an ejector, but I will not be raped for over $40 in shipping charges for that tiny part just because I'm north of a line on a map.
Homestead is out of stock, but has a spring. Anyone else I should check out?
There's one on ebay, but it looks like it's been in a vat of acid for a week.

Re: How to make a 250 grain bullet in a 92 Winchester feed.
On Kieth style bullets I have still got issues. The meplat is too large to feed on my rifle (I'd love to use them if I could). It hangs up on the chamber, so I use a bullet with a more rounded profile.
I must look into deepening that groove as you suggested.

Malamute When I got to building this rifle, I had to modify those same parts to feed the 44-40. You see this rifle is a conglomeration of parts. When I first traded an old BP shotgun for it many years ago, it was a barreled action, with a lot of action pitting, and a well worn 38-40 barrel. The acti...

Given the choice, if I were hunting from camp, I'd take my 1886 in 45-70 any day. However, if I were packing and walking all my gear, it'd be the 454 in the '92. The weight difference is substantial. Both with the rifle, and the ammo. For the same reason, I'll use the 1886 if I'm on stand for moose,...
