Re: .45 Colt vs. .44 Special
The way I understand it, the Cavalry needed something capable of stopping a horse; first, best target when facing another rider, right? If the .45 can cripple a horse, a dang coyote doesn't stand a chance. The real bummer is that you can still get a Blackhawk cheaper than most SAA clones. I wonder a...

Re: .45 Colt vs. .44 Special
Okay, I've heard some comments for both calibers. Let me kind of go down a side road, so to speak...how is the performance of the .45 Colt in loads that can be shot in modern SAA clones? The .45 was considered acceptable by the US Cavalry when it was adopted by the Army, right? I would assume the ro...

Re: OT: Can you shoot on your Property
Yes, but I still have to follow the law. I'm not supposed to shoot over a road, and I have to be at least 1/4 mi from the nearest residence. Unfortunately, I'm getting a new neighbor. I'm going to have to make nice with him so he doesn't complain. His house will be closer than 1/4 mi., but I guess i...

Re: .45 Colt vs. .44 Special
Yeah, I already have a nice half-lug heavy barrel GP 100, so .357 Magnum is covered. Just kinda got that big-bore bug that keeps whispering in my ear.

If you had your choice of .45 Colt or .44 Special (not 44M) in a Ruger single action revolver, which would you choose and why?

Puma 92 .357
How does the Puma compare to the Marlin 1894? I'm itching to get a .357 levergun. I know the Puma is foreign-made, but is it as well-made as the Marlin? As accurate and dependable? Does the top ejection get in the way, like throwing brass in your face?

Some Marlin 94 questions
First off, when I've checked at online dealers it seems everybody is out of the 94 in .357. Are they unavailable right now? If I can find one, I'd like to have the .357 for a do-all kind of gun. Something I want to do with it is try coyote hunting with some guys from work. What's the practical limit...

ursavus...thanks for that link. I thought that was a good article. Just for reference, I should tell everybody that 1) This rifle won't be my only defensive firearm in the house...I have a 12 ga. and a .357 already, and 2) my nearest neighbor is over a 1/4 mile away and I live in a rural area. The r...

30-30 load for home defense
What would be a good load for home defense in a lever action 30-30, either commercial or handloaded? I'm assuming that for HD it would be important to minimize overpenetration.

I read Paco's article "30-30 varmint loads" and I'm interested in checking out some more info on this. Where are some other good sources for reduced loads for varmints, plinking, etc?

No, you're not being a smarta** at all. I understand I may not be as good a shot as other people. I just want to make sure I'm being reasonable. A guy I know wants to call coyotes. I need a rifle and need to keep costs down. I can get a cheap bolt action with a cheap scope for about the same money a...

There can be no doubt that the U.N. wants to disarm the world's population. That group, along with our own liberal citizenry, would have some huge organization play 'Daddy' to all of us poor ignorant souls who think we are capable of governing ourselves. It's pitiful to think that people in position...

I just looked into this myself. I agree that simply throwing money at the problem is no solution at all. I also think that the BILLIONS we're talking about could be much better spent. We'll end up with some a**hole like Saddam stealing the food and medicine we send and locking it up in a bunch of wa...

From what I've read, the chambers are a little too tight and not quite the same diameter from one to another. I read an article on it at http://www.beartoothbullets.com/tech_no ... tes.htm/59
I've read in other places that this problem is common in .45 Colt Rugers.

I do like rugers, I own two. A 22/45 and a 10/22. Used to have a Single six and also a GP100. The Vaquero just costs too much, and I've heard from several folks that the .45 Blackhawk needs cylinder work as soon as you get it. I don't really need to shoot hot loads. Am I wrong about my take on the B...

I've recently read about problems shooting .38s in the model 94. I read where some guys found a ring burned in the chamber from shooting .38 plinker loads. I guess normal pressure loads aren't a problem. Does anyone have any squib loads worked up with .357 brass? Something that won't fly very far if...

It's gonna be a Marlin, but which one???
I was having a hard enough time deciding whether I wanted a model 94 in .357, or one of the 336s in 30-30. Now I see that the 94 comes in 32-20 caliber, which I know almost nothing about, but of course it intrigues me. Intended uses for said levergun are: 99% plinking and target shooting; the other ...

If you could only have one levergun, what caliber would you want, and why? It could be a long time before I might be able to get another one. It may even postpone getting a handgun indefinitely.

I had thought about a J-frame because the price is right. Frankly, I was skeptical about accuracy beyond HD distance. Also I've heard they're hard to control beyond the first shot due to their light weight. Of course, this is just from reading or listening to other people. The lightest revolvers I'v...

I've been thinking about getting a S&W model 10. I saw several on Gunbroker.com but I've never used them. Any opinions, positive or negative on using Gunbroker?
