My Krag is a Cablea's special run of Ruger #1A in 30-40 Krag! Never could find a decent original Krag without a shot out barrel.

Leupold changes the reticules out for less than $50 and quick.
I would think with a muzzle loader a post and hair would work well for quicker shots.

I love my Ruger SR9c, never failed to go bang and cycle, fits well, not to small, just a nice pointing pistol. As far as the elk being mounted....HECK yes ONLY cause we all know that puny rifle and caliber couldn't possibly kill an elk that big, you would need a super mag wisper jet in 345!

There are quite a few very good optics availble now in the mid price range. I would suggest that in the store where it is bright don't get fooled by the light gathering. Try to look into a dark corner of the store. I would also suggest that a 8 x 46 are the best for elk hunting with a great balance ...

I fold mine so the map's name is on the bottom right corner, then stack them in a box. Easy to flip through to see whichone I want.
I use both a GPS and a topo map, they are never out of style and still work when I don't get a signal or my batteries are dead.

I have not gone to a public range in quite a while, the state has some here in CO that are free but can be crowded. I have my own on my own land a pistol, 100 rifle and a 200 yard rifle.
