Anyone ever use one of these on the forearm of an 1886?
I've been contemplating putting a sling on my Winnie 86. Has anyone used something like this; //http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=6754&title=SWIVEL+STUD on the forearm? I'm a little leary that I'd pull it out if it didn't have a slave bracket backing it up under the for...

C.Cash, the saddle is actually an old Sears saddle. I should probably put it up as Sears hasn't sold saddles for many a year. It's a modified association style tree. I have a custom saddle made by Jeff Morrow of Shootingstar Saddlery, Montana Territory. It's made on a Visalia tree with a straight ba...

Thanks everyone for your comments. You can teach a horse to some what tolerate shooting around them just check out SASS's Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association. But my personal opinion shooting from atop a horse is crazy, unless there's no choice, big bear in your face or a cat, and, your rifle's in y...

Just for thought, check out: http://www.leatherwoodoptics.com/
They have a line of Malcolm scopes that would look pretty period correct on a levergun.

TedH, I've already packed her around one season elk hunting. I didn't bring anything home. I'll either take the Sharps or my Win 86 in 45-90. The Winnie would be easier to pack as she's a bit lighter. I say a bit because both those rifles are big'uns and heavy. I'm hoping to ride one horse and pack ...

Pic's of my levergun transportation quadrapeds
Thought I'd throw a couple pictures up of my levergun transporters. Eventually I'll hopefully get to use my two boys hunting deer and elk. I only had the wife take pic's today of my bay, but we also have a black. Both registered quarterhorses. They're three years old. We bought them as yearlings and...

My experience is that a lot of manufacturers didn't number their firearms until they had to ('68 GCA). It's a real pain in the LE world trying to identify a weapon found in the hands of no good and prove it's stolen. Then get it back to the rightful owner. It's really disheartening to be holding ont...

But even vegetable tanned leathers will eventually cause rust. It's the moisture the leather absorbs that's the culprit. Every now and then I'd take the ...
