Re: Let Me Get This Straight...??? (rant)
About the only thing that makes me mad about the new guns coming out, and a lot of the old guns too, it that I don't have enough money to buy 'em before they're discontinued or unavailable. I sure want one of them new white Marlin 45/70's with a green and gray plywood stock and over-sized lever, and...

Re: Best Winchester 94 production?
I own both pre-64 and post-64 94's chambered in 30-30 Winchester. My post-64's are made under the U.S. Repeating Arms name and were produced long after the cheap post-64 uglies were rejected, then improved, and a few years before they came with rebounding hammers and safeties. When I compare these i...

No difference? Among other noted writers, Taffin often writes that to achieve cast bullet good accuracy in micro-groove barrels one must: 1. Have the bullet sized to the barrel (no off-the-shelf stuff). 2. Have the bullet gas checked (no plain flat or bevel based stuff). 3. Load it to above a specif...

When it comes to accurately shooting 45/70 plainbase cast bullets , is Ballard Cut rifling really superior to Micro-Grove rifling? If there is a real and significant positive difference, and Marlin is making its 1895 with Ballard rifling, (except for shooting jacketed bullets) is there any reason to...

Re: CAst bullets in the BLR .540 marlin
The 450 Marlin is equivalent to the top end Marlin 45/70 loads. The 450M was developed as such and is maxed out at those pressures. It was not developed to equal a 458 Winchester. Besides chamber strength and overall gun strength, you must also factor in brass strength, including case head strength ...
