Re: Triple 4 Marlin wants a 45/70 Government

You are correct. My thinking, and I have both, is that the 45-70 is more flexable. You can load down to .444 levels, but a .444 cannot shoot a 525 grain whopper....... I think a fella could take either one for his only rifle and do pretty darn good if you recognize range limits. See, that's sound w...

Triple 4 Marlin wants a 45/70 Government

I own a 444 Marlin and once owned a 45/70 Government. The 444 Marlin can drive a 355 grain hard cast WFN bullet at velocities sufficient to penetrate a couple elk from any angle. The 45/70 Government can drive the same type bullet weighing 425 grains at a velocity that can penetrate a couple elk and...

What to do with it. Stash it where you can get to it should an intruder intrude and you've either run out of shots or can't take one. That thing could really ruin someones intentions. Or, you could sell it to me.

If you've got a full length sizing die, you've got a neck sizing die. Just follow the instructions that came with your die (or any reloading manual) to neck size instead of full size (all you do is set up for full length sizing, then back off until only the neck is being sized - its as easy as pie).
