What happened?
I used to come here a lot to read about and learn about lever guns. Now, about 1 post in 10 is about lever guns. Guess it is time to move on.

Learn to HUNT, not just shoot. Get within 150yds and put the bullet where it needs to go and a 30-30 is fine. If you read the slick gun mags, the 30-30 is barley enough for jack rabbits. I understand these are in pretty limited supply, but I'm not going to be the impatient guy that buys one for $100 over MSRP. The Lee bullet, modified by flat pointing it, works fine in my 336 Marlin. I size it to .302 and patch it back up to .312. No gas check. Load it to an OAL that feeds and ejects fine.

I load the Lee 200gr (flat pointed) over 32gr of AA4350. Works for me anyway.

Speed ain't everything and I'll gladly swap 100-200 fps for even a slight to modest gain in accuracy. I never pick a powder anymore because it will get me the most velocity. LK +1 on accuracy is king. My most accurate 30-30 load is a 311041 over 36gr of AA4350. Barley hits 2000fps but is by far the...

And if you want my money, make your web site simple enough for us computer idiots to find what we are looking for. I changed suppliers last year for just that reason. My old supplier (over 30 years) "updated" his web page and I couldn't fine anything. I now spend all my money elsewhere.

For mine I anneal the neck AND shoulder, prime and charge with a small amount of Unique. Fill case with Cream of Wheat, plug with wax an fire in my .375. Perfect .375 brass, and cheap too.

Few people hunt anymore, they shoot. My boss has what amounts to a condo tree stand. Buys corn to feed deer year around. Opining day he drives out in his 4 wheeler, climbs up into his condo and when the deer show up at the feeder he shoots one. That, my friend is NOT hunting.

In 40+ years of hunting with the 45-70 the load I have found best all around is a 430gr paper patched bullet over 54gr. of AA2495. Works for everything.

My 1985g is one of my go to rifles for anything. I load a 430gr PP bullet to just over 1850fps. Figure that will handle anything I might run up against in western Kansas. LOL

I have 3 45cal rifles, 2 Marlins in 45-70 and one bolt gun in .458 WM. I finally bought a throating reamer and cut the throats to my preferences. I paper patch for all so I needed the correct throat with a gentle slope into the rifling. Made all the difference in the world.

Before I had a 25.06 I was given 120rds of ammo for one. Fired them all in my 30.06 and had perfect fire formed brass for reloading. Fired them into a dire bank from about 10 feet so I knew where the bullets went.

I used to leave a rifle in my truck 24/7 till the heat destroyed the ammo in it. Pulled down on a coyote and it went pop instead of bang.

25mi east of Dodge City here. 8.5mi of that is sand road. Wouldn't trade it for any city anywhere. 880yd shooting range in my back yard. Nearest neighbor is 3/4 mile away. Best of everything.

The three most important things in getting cast bullets to shoot well are...size, size, and size! Slug your bore and throats and fit the bullets to your gun.

I coat my brass and bullets with acetone I have dissolved a bit of clear plastic in. The acetone evaporates and leaves a coating of plastic to protect things. Never have had to re-coat any, last for years even if you handle them.

I would stay with my 1895g in 45-70. A 430gr paper patched lead at just over 1800 has worked on everything I have tried it on so far.
