Re: history of the west... what books?
I think the book Doc Hudson mentioned about the cavalry out west (mostly about Custer) is titled Cavalier in Buckskin. Robert Utley has written a pile of books about the west. Most are good. You've gotten some really good suggestions here. I'd look for books which narrow the focus a bit if you want ...

Re: OT: My Pantheon of Heroes
This if interesting. I'm reading Billy Dixon's book right now. He'd resisted making a fuss over the events of his life, and was a truly modest guy. But other folks convinced his wife to nudge him on this, and he finally consented to relate the most well known events in detail, while she wrote. Good ...

Thanks for posting this Ysabel. I try to maintain faith that the basic truths of true old-fashioned conservatism (the basis of much of libertarianism) will again surface in the Republican party. Great pictures and story! I'm old enough to have grown up with The Rifleman tv show; thoroughly loved it. One of the oldie networks ran the series a few years back and I taped about a dozen episodes. I graduated high school in Orlando in 1971. My pals and I were surfers, and we'd pool our quarters and head over to Cocoa Beach, about 50 miles east. Yeah, Geronimo was a great film, and for what it's worth, one of the few factual errors they let slip in there was the death of Robert Duvall's character, chief of scouts Al Sieber. Good post OI. Hobie's right too. An all too common occurrence these days in divorces is for a spouse to claim violence - even if none ever took place - because it immediately places hardships on the man.
