Re: Building a Winchester Collection.
We are not collectors, but caretakers. We must keep these great old guns in their original condition for the next generation of "caretakers". That way none of those bozos can reblue, refinish, rework a classic.

Smokeless won't "bump up" a bullet, you need the "explosiveness" of black powder. Use the smaller bullet diameter that will chamber, back off 10% on your smokeless powder load and top off the powder charge with shotgun buffer powder. The powder acts like a gas check and shoots gr...

Another vote for the poly shot buffer. My experience is that it can add to the pressure causing more fps. Also makes undersized bullets shoot well in over sized bores.

All of my 1876 rifles with crescent buttplates have the trapdoor in them. I believe Pirkle in his '76 book states the same. Lots of "parts" guns out there.

I use the angle cut ceramic media in a Thumler's Tumbler to clean 45-90 cases that have been shot with black powder. Works great, even cleans the primer pockets. I think it will last forever. I tumble for about 3-4 hours and the brass comes out looking like new. If you shoot black powder, you'll nev...

Re: Question Concerning Tumbling Lead bullets on Paper Target
Smokeless powder will NOT bump up a bullet. Black powder has the "explosiveness" to bump up a bullet that smokeless doesn't. It is one of the main differences between the two powders. I have shot many .403 bullets through a .406 bore using several different smokeless powders and recovered ...
