Re: MTM plastic storage boxes and brass failure
I've got over 4,000 rounds loaded in these cases in different calibers and some are over twenty years old. Never happened to any of them. I think it's a leap to conclude that the plastic case caused this failure mode. I've worked in quality and statistical engineering most of my adult life. It's ver...

Re: 357 mag Low wall
I've killed over fifty deer with a 357 mag and some were well past a hundred yards. Bullet expansion is greatly reduced beyond seventy-five yards so bullet placement is critical. I have recovered quite a few bullets out of the deer and have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Unless you can place ...

www.boltdepot.com I've found a number of odd sizes in metric from them for use on firearms. They have a good website and you can find what you're looking for pretty easily.

Re: Win/Miroku 1886 - problems with col
It's going to Turnbull's on Friday and getting the throat opened up. I just can't see owning a gun that can't use all the available ammo that should fit into the gun. I can't even get Rem factory 405g to chamber. I like the gun and it's a "keeper" so I might just as well put a couple of bu...

Win/Miroku 1886 - problems with col
Got a new Win/Miroku and it shoots reloads fine using Rem 300 grain JHP and Oregon Trail 350 grain cast. However, when I load Hornady 350 grain FP using the cannalure on the bullet it won't feed into the chamber. The col is under the max col and fits in my other 45-70s. Same problem with using the R...

Re: Sling swivels for Winchester/Miroku 1886 size
I would use this set from Blackhawk, with a "cut-to-size" piece of soft brass shim stock inside the magazine tube ring, to make it a snug fit. You could, of course, substitute a BCS for the brass shim. (Beer Can Shim) Camo the edges of any shimstock with a black Sharpie or paint. http://w...

Sling swivels for Winchester/Miroku 1886 size
Does anyone know what size swivel set to use on the magazine tube of this gun? The actual tube size is .7235". I've found three different sellers saying to use three different sizes for this gun. I can't understand why I'm getting so many different conflicting bits of info on this. Anyone have ...

Re: Octagon vs Round
Who's kidding who? Octagon simply looks cool. I've got some of each and don't think any one is better than the other. Some guns just "need" an octagon barrel. I had a very, very nice 1874 Sharps that shot really well. I just never learned to like the round barrel on it and sold it. It just...

Re: Range Report - 45-70 Marlin and Springfield - delayed ig
I shoot a lot of 45-70 and haven't had that problem with any primers I've used. I get good ignition with all of them. I'm taking a guess here but a couple of things come to mind and may or may not be part of the problem. Are you weighing the powder charges on a scale? You're shooting light loads to ...

Re: XTPs in muzzleloader?
Make sure your breechplug and/or nipple are compatible with Blackhorn 209. Not all are. They are compatible with Blackhorn 209. The TC changed the breechplug due to a problem with Triple7 pellets cracking when the bullet was seated. Any loose powder will work with all breechplugs. It's just the pel...

Re: XTPs in muzzleloader?
XTP's are my go to bullet. I've been shooting muzzle loaders for over 40 years and I've tried everything at one time or another. Currently I'm shooting TC's and a Savage ML2 smokeless. I've kept spreadsheets on performance, components, and accuracy with eveything I've shot. XTP's are capable of amaz...

Re: My experience with Cabela's AND Pedersoli
I've had the same situation as the OP with Pedersoli/Cabela's TWICE now. To Cabela's credit, they couldn't have done more to make it right. I've also been in contact with Lee Shaver a couple of times about Pedersoli and questions on his sights. He is number one in my book for being a straight arrow ...

Re: Pedersoli 1886/71
I think the feeding problem is common on these guns. I just got one last week and haven't shot it yet. After reading several posts on this subject, I loaded a few different rounds into the magazine and tried to cycle them through the action. None of them would feed. Cycling the gun empty, the carrie...

Re: 2400 in 45-70
It's not necessary to use a filler with 2400 but quite a few shooters use it believing that it produces less variation in fps which could result in more consistant/tighter groups. I've recently tried it in my rifles with no decernible difference in group size. It doesn't seem to make any difference ...

I have a set of each and both are very good. As stated, the MVA has a better finish. However, the Lee Shaver sight is probably as functional as the MVA. If I were putting it on a gun I was shooting competition with, and wanted it to look really nice, I'd get the MVA. If I were putting it on a gun I ...

Grouping the cartridges according to weight is much more productive. Even mid-priced match ammo like Wolf MT/SK Standard Plus will have some wide weight variables. As you get up to the Elex Tenex Red level, you get what you pay for.........http://www.championshooters.com/store/product.php?productid...

Re: 357 mag rifle question
I bought a Marlin lever gun in 357 three years ago and I've shot seven deer with it. It did a great job on each deer with ranges from 40 yards out to 125 yards. I've tried all bullets and powder and the Hornady 158 JHP shoots the best with 296 powder, and it does a great job. You won't have any trou...

Re: Questions on Marlin 1894 .357 feeding
Mine did it when I bought it new. Sent it back and they fixed it and I got it back in about three weeks. The thing that tics me off is; don't they check these things after they make them? It did it 100% with every brand of ammo. They couldn't have gotten even one shell to feed if they had tested it....

Re: .357 Magnum Hunting... Being Laughed At :(
I've shot over 40 deer with a .357 handgun and haven't lost one yet. I've shot five with a Marlin I bought two years ago also. Shot placement is critical with any caliber. It is more than enough gun for deer sized game. I get almost no pass throughs with 140-145 grain bullets and almost all pass thr...

Re: OT- Rimfire sillywet, Browning Buckmark?
Congratulations on buying a great gun. I owned three of these at one time when silhouette was really going strong. I owned an Anschutz Exemplar at the same time and the Browning would shoot every bit as good as the Anschutz. At the Region One championship in 1991 I shot 9 of 10 shoot off chickens (R...
