Re: The defensive levergun
I've got a Winchester '94 Trapper in .44 mag that has become my "truck gun". It is quick handling and reliable to a fault. I like that I can carry an assortment of different rounds that will handle a variety of needs. I also like that it has a "Cowboy" look to it rather than anyt...

Re: Who needs the .44's anyway?
I DO!!!! The .44 is a GREAT round in both handgun and rifle. I can't think of a more versatile, accurate, and reliable round than that of the ol' fourty-four!! If I was allowed only one gun....that's the caliber I'd chose. Maybe I read too much Skeeter Skelton and Elmer Keith when I was a kid.........

Re: The all around Ranch Rifle?
I've got a Winchester Trapper in .44 mag that has been my "truck gun" lately. I like that it is short and handy. I don't have much need to shoot at any great distance, so the factory sights and reasonable range of a .44 are just fine for me. I like that it has the ability to handle many si...

Re: Prettiest levergun
Yep....I've got one of those new model 1895 Winchesters in .405 with the color case receiver. It's a real beauty!! My favorite levergun that I own is a Winchester Model 1886 short rifle. It's a .45-70 with the 22" octagonal barrel, straight grip stock, and a full magazine tube. Made in 1897 if ...

Re: Laid Off? Need work? Post it here and lets network!
Well, just got laid off after ten years with the company. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad as I was the last to go as the company decided to close its doors. I wish they had given me some notice though....things were slowing down, but I didn't expect this move. Anyhow, I'm a mechanic in the SF Bay A...

I'll see what I can do. I'm not real savvy on the picture posting etc. I've finally got it figured out how to e-mail pictures though. PM me with your address and I'll get you a couple shots.

Re: OT...Liberty II Coach Gun
Thanks 86er.....I got it apart last night after working with it a bit. It was different than others I've had apart in the past and I didn't want to screw anything up in the process. I just want to clean it up a bit and refinish the stock with Tru Oil so as to get rid of that slippery, glossy finish ...

OT...Liberty II Coach Gun
Sorry for being a bit off topic, but I wasn't finding anything on my own and I know a lot of you guys shoot the doubles as well. I just picked up a Liberty II rabbit ear coach gun to shoot SASS with. I wanted to know if anyone had a link to a site with tear-down instructions or a blow up drawing of ...

Re: Load for a 44Special
I've got a Dillon 550 that I've been loading on for over ten years now. It is VERY consistent with all powders I run. Unique is the powder that I use the most. Never had an issue with it. I can't tell you how many rounds of 7.5 grains Unique that I've thrown on that press, but it's many thousands. I...

Re: OT - Colt SAA in .44 special, 4 3/4
I simply LOVE my Colt's .44 specials. I bought a set a number of years ago now for SASS shooting and general bumming around. I had been shooting Rugers, and saw a guy selling a few Colts. I told my wife that I'd always wanted a .44 special Colt and I was gonna' buy one (expecting the usual "wha...

Re: Load for a 44Special
Hay there O.S.O.K. I don't mean to drift this thread, but I gotta' ask what grips you've got on that 696 in your photo. I've got the Packmar ones that came on the gun, but would love a quality wood grip to replace them with. I like the look of the ones on your revolver. Where might I find a set like...

Re: Load for a 44Special
I've got a 696....great little revolver. Mine mostly sees Keith 250 grain slugs loaded over 7.5 grains of Unique. This is a comfortable round that works well in all my .44 special revolvers. I've not tried handloading the lighter bullets. The Winchester Silvertip and Speer Gold Dot factory 200 grain...

Re: Ruger 44 Speial Flat Top at the Range
I've only put about 20 rounds through my new .44 special Flattop, but I didn't notice any leading to speak of. I was shooting Mt. Baldy 250 grain Keith slugs over 7.5 grains of Unique. I need to shoot some paper with it, but it was tin can accurate at ten paces. So far, I'm happy with it.

Re: .45 Colt vs. .44 Special
I've gotta' say that I love the .44 special. It is a great cartridge that can be loaded to suit many needs. I don't load mine crazy hot like some folks do, but I do think it would take the pressures better than a .45 colt. The thicker cylinder walls and stronger brass would make me feel safer. At th...

Re: Cowboy Tutt - Stetson or Resistol???
One more vote for Serratelli. I bought one from a farm n' feed store in Cody Wy about ten years ago. After wearing it darn near daily since then, it's a bit rough now, but still in good shape. Can't say the same about a Resistol I had prior to this one. Rain or sun, it works great. I'd like to find ...

Re: Eventually I would like to get ---
I love the .44 special and I love the Colt's SAA.....together, they make the perfect handgun. I've got a wonderful wife that convinced me to buy a "set" of 5 1/2" .44 specials a number of years ago. I shoot the SASS matches and her theory at the time was "what are you gonna' do w...

Re: OT: .45 Autos
I'm a big fan of the .45 auto. I've owned a Colt's Gold Cup, a Combat Elite, and a Defender. The Combat Elite has been a great pistol; but the others have suffered many problems getting them to run right. That Combat Elite runs great and has done so for the 15+ years that I've owned it. The Gold Cup...

Winchester '94 Trapper??
I've been interested in finding a "Trapper" length .44 magnum. I'd really like to turn one up that has the old style receiver (not an angle-eject). I have a .30-30 in that configuration and love it. Can anyone tell me if Winchester ever made such an animal; or, did they not produce any .44...

Those nut-jobs in Bezerkley make me sick. Unfortunately, I live just southeast of there. It is sad to say, but there are way too many folks that think like that. They just don't get it. The inmates are running the asylum. Every time I see a group like that protesting on the street, I just reach down...

I've been doin' it now since about '96 I think. I enjoy the heck out of it. I honestly don't get out as much as I like; but, I've tried to shoot a few major shoots a year along with a monthly match every now and then. The folks that I've met in the game are top notch. I've always been a bit of a &qu...

For me, it's generally one of my single action .44 revolvers in a western rig. I like this set-up for general woods bumming. With an assortment of different loads, it works quite nicely. I am also quite fond of just sticking my .45 Colt 1911 in my waistband. This works well around camp and on so for...
