Re: For All You Jeep Lovers...
Handirifle's comments on the 4.0 were spot on. I've had Jeeps all my life and the 4.0 was the peak making a balancedd package. It's not how much power you have, it's where it is. And yes, there is such a thing as too much. Not a fan of a V8 Jeep. It has to be overbuilt not to break stuff. My 03 Rubi...

I know it's not one of your choices but I would go with a 20" 38-55. I have a couple of 38-55 carbines and they handle very well. They are lighter than a 30-30 because of the bigger hole in the bore.
That said, I've never tried a trapper in 38-55.

Re: 'EBR' version of the M1A for today's times
Mr Murphy, As you mentioned, it's hard to effectively mount a conventional scope on the rifle and I don't care to have the action covered. I chose to use the Ultimak on my scout/squad in place of the factory mount. It's lower and doesn't draw heat like the factory mount. As the owner of several scou...

Re: 'EBR' version of the M1A for today's times
As a long time M1A fan I gave the sage a long, hard look. I think it is great for a DMR or sniper role but just adds too much weight and bulk for all round use. The Vltor or Choate stock are lighter and more compact. That said, I think the old GI synthetic is hard to beat and nearly indestructible. ...

Re: scoping 336 30-30
As Doc said, try shooting the rifle with the peep first. The arpeture itself will not be sharply defined and many people remove the threaded in center once the rifle is zeroed. As for a scope, you will first have to ask yourself what you intend to use the rifle for to determine if it is an advantage...

Is it possible to stock the M1A with the collapsible stock the AR15 has? Since putting that on a shotgun I find it perfect. I need the pistol grip because of my hand issues. 2ndovc,
I really like your Ishy. Some people don't care for the detatchable mag on the new Ruger prefering to load with stripper clips. I like it cause if you decide to mount a conventional scope it still has quick reloading capability. You sir have the best of both worlds.

One point regarding the M1A; If you are used to using traditional rifles it may feel more natural with a conventional style stock and sights that aren't two inches above the bore line. That being said, scope mounting is not as easy as with more modern rifles but certainly doable. I myself have alway...

I believe what you are looking at is the spindle valve. Basically a shut off to the gas system for use with rifle grenades to prevent damage to op-rod or gas system. It can also be used to make the rifle a straight pull bolt action.
