The pigs in the picture look more like european boar than feral pig.

Feral pigs have gone some of the way back to its origins- but not that far.

I agree they were well made, the 71 carbine (a Browning) that i once had and parted with, however, had very plain wood.

I have not seen it and I may infact not do so- although I usually watch westerns. You see John Wayne was one of my childhood heroes. I do not think he was a great actor, or even a particularly good one (though he was a successful one) mainly because he used to play himself- this created credibility....

I have never personally dealt with flooding- just Australia's third evil after snakes and floods- fires. They can place an immense strain on community resources and it is gratifying to here that Queensland has got it together- as emergency services did a month ago when we had some flooding in Queanb...

NSW is pretty wet as well. We are just waiting for a lot of the water to move down stream.

Its typical for Australia. Everyone was winging about the impact of drought on the Murray River system a few months back.....

I'm thinking about a nice european Kipplauf (break open) single shot. Most, are to expensive, and the BRNO effect is not available in Australia.
I am thinking about a Sabbatti in 7x57 mauser.

An early production Remington model 7 .222. I have taken an incredible amount of game with this rifle since I purchased it in about 1986. I would never part with it, and to me it is the ultimate rambling gun.

I will scope lever guns for rounds like 243 or 308 but never 30-30's. The scope encourages shooters to take 200 yard plus shots which to me are beyond the capability of a flat point 30-30. Note- I also have a 30-30 Contender that has been Ackley Imp and consider this with spitzers fine to about 225 ...

Used to have an BLR in 308, now have a MLR in the same calibre. Better than 2 inches at 100 yards. I can get it down to a smidge over an inch if I play with loads.

I also sold a B92 357 some years ago (An act of stupidity that I still kick myself for) and acquired a B92 carbine this year in 44M.

My magnum is a keeper and dare I say it, the perfect gun for feral pigs.

Brands I have tried are Hornady, Federal and Winchester. Big W is certainly the worst, but others also rupture.

Winchester 9417 and case rupture

I have a Winchester 9417, all recovered fired cases have ruptured, with a split in the case evident for about four mm running down in a straight line from the case mouth.

Obviously I cannot reload the 17 HMR, but are there any dangers from this happening for the shooter or firearm?

Used to have one in 357- excellent little rifle but I found the range very limited.

Now I have one in 44 mag. Well made, acceptable accuracy for this sort of firearm. I agree, it does 'kick a bit' noticeably but not unbearably.
