Mine is 30-40 and dates 1931. The rear sight was missing when I bought it, but a friend had a old "buffington" that we mounted without drilling any new holes. The handguard wont fit over the sight. The gun shoots well.

If it turns out that the bore is hopeless, I would get it bored out to .357. I did that once to a shotout 25-20 92. Also you could get it resleeved to whatever. I always wanted one in 256 win mag. I dont really know if that would be that much better than 25-20 though. Anybody know?

The 92 was blue. I would get blue, case harden octagon barrel short rifle. Thats just my taste. Unless you really need stainless in the field in your climate as a real needed feature, I wouldnt go stainless. It is so wrong as a replica! Howsomever its your money!
