There is technique and thoughtful management necessary but I've never found even the Mauser safety to be an impediment. Did you contact their custom shop? Sometimes barrels come up on one of the auction sites as well. You could also look at some of the muzzleloader barrel makers/suppliers...

I'd zero with the irons and then the scope. Those things shoot about as well as any other gun when consistently loaded.
