Sometimes I think the only reason we buy stuff is so we can show it off on the board. This board has cost me and many others here plenty of bucks, but who cares, life is short.
I'll tell you the reason I snagged it besides the $400 price tag. Back in the eighties I had a brand spanking new 99 in 358 to which I shot maybe 20 rounds out of it. In those days, 358's were not on the "crazy list" of so many shooters so when a guy offered me an even trade for a like new Marlin 336 in .219 Zipper, I took it. And every time since then whenever I saw a .358 I cringed and slapped myself in the head. When I saw this one yesterday, I said to myself, "Now, here's one that won't break the bank".
Funny thing, the gunshop owner tod me he thinks the buttstock was shortened and a recoil pad added. I said, "yea, thats a shame" But...........I knew better. It was a real-deal Savage buttpad. Same buttpad thats in the pictures on a 60's Gun Digest. Took the pad off and the stock had the factory numbers stamped on the wood.
Well, I'm gonna play now. I'm off this week and plan on spending lots of time at the gunclub getting ready for the 12/21/12 demise of the world.
