Traffic Control Motorcycle NY City circ: 1918

Post by don Tomás »

Or maybe crowd control? Things must have been tough in NY even in 1918...
Think that's the Colt-Browning M1895 (nicknamed potato digger)

And a classic old Indian motorcycle.

Why can't I find one of those setting back in someone's barn?

Were they expecting an invasion by Hun forces in Manhattan?

Gotta control that 'traffic'...

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Pretty much all European uniforms from the 1890s-1960s are some variation on the one you see there. The current USMC dress blues is still in that style. Look at pics of Pershing, any British WW1 general, most WW2 generals (either side) and their standard dress/work uniform still falls under the general style you see.

Well, the poster on the wall is for "Third Liberty Loan" (The Third Liberty Loan Act was a liberty bond sold during World War I)

Also, pretty sure French police wore the "képi" style of cap (think caps worn by North/South in Civil War, French Foreign Legion, Charles de gaulle, and Police Captain Louis Renault (Claude Rains in Casa Blanca - "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!")

Just saying...
