Hunting in S. Cal. can be cold early and then 85 degrees by noon.I layer up lightly and also wear a camo
fine mesh head mask.It breaks up your face but I like it because the gnats and flys stay away from my
ears and face.I can stay still without the bugs driving you nutts.

I have heard the Buck Hammer slugs from Rem. work great on bear. Full 12ga. diameter 1 3/8 oz.
solid slug at 1550 fps should plough a nice deep hole.

If it was stuck in a engine block that would de easy but in a gun could be tricky.Any time you drill something like this try to get a quality bit (colbolt) and also turn at proper speed,go slow and if drilling through slow up when busting through.Also you could use cutting oil.I might be gung ho but...

Just got the Cabelas shooting book and noticed 357 loaded by Fiocchi with Hornady 158 XTP were
27.99 50 ct. and Hornady loads the same bullet for 19.99 25ct..Anybody know if theres a load
difference between them. 7 bucks for 25 more of the same is a big diff....

Well from what I read these days you have to shoot bears with a cartridge as big around as a 20 ga.shell necked down to 7mm with a surgical plastic laser bullet designed for 99% weight retention with a 6-14 power scope,but I would opt for the 44 with heavy bullets.Partialy because it holds 10 rounds...

I will have to check them out. I use CCI cb longs and have shot hundreds of them out of my Rossi pump.Birds,rabbits,cats you name it.I found them faster out of a pistol then I read somewhere they peak out velosity at 9-10 in. barrels.The rossi is quieter than my beeman.And I like the heavier bullet ...

I was at Clearlake in June and loved the area,I saw countless turkeys around
all over,many deer and one big hog spread out on Hwy 20 east of the lake near
Cache Creek.I got to hunt up there some day,its a 9 hour drive so its alittle far.

Just guessing here but I have soaked beef steaks in coca cola and it eats the
fat up real good.You cant leave it more than 20-30 min. or the meat falls apart
so it might work for bear even better.

I also go too the badlands area east of Moreno Valley off of 60 and Gilman springs Rd. Some of the washes in there hold rabbits and quail.Most coyotes I see are at 300 yards and movin out.The place is steep with some dirt bikes on weekends but when its hot you may be alone.One area I have been wanti...

I think LA is the only county you cant hunt rabbits with 22.Check out Garner
Valley off hwy 74 east of Lake Hemet.Its not the best but its at 4000 ft and
cooler.There are some deer,coyotes, and bobcats.A few mountain and valley quail
also.90 min. from orange co.

Not much knowledge here but I do know you have too cure them
in a brine.If you eat them off the tree they are real bitter.There are

For the pigs bigger is better.35 Rem or 45-70. 45-70 you can use light loads
then jump up too heavys for hogs.A big hog can be tough.Shooting over some
hounds close smaller cals. can work but further out you could use more power.

The loads I have shoot pretty good out of my Ruger 3 screw Blackhawk.The Unique
powder doesnt seem dirty out of my pistol.I have a handful of 158gr. xtp hp,158gr.Win.
hp,I would trade but I could shoot what I have left in one shoot.I really want to

Just went to big 5 picked one up.Caught the sale a day early but they honored the
price so I didnt have to come back. $399.The normal price is 519.00 They also
have 336 30-30 and 1894 44mag for the same price.

You could start with a Handy rifle in 223 and if all works out and they like it
step em up with the 243.If its got to be a bolt a 7-08 would grow with them

I know alot of folks here dont like scopes on their levers but thought someone here might have tried a shotgun slug style scope?I noticed they have longer eye relief so you could mount it farther forward to open up the hammer.Not real crazy about those extentions on the hammer and might make it fast...

In Kalifornia the shows are garbage some times.There used to be a show in Pomona,Ca.
that had 8 miles of tables!!!!Good competition for prices and ton to look at.Your feet

The most important thing to do is have fun.In a good scouted area,a hike
in well before light,90% of a hunt can be done sitting.I find moving too

You could check out areas bordering Camp Pendelton and santa rosa plateu.there are avocado farms with water and cover.Bluejay campground area near ortega hwy. use to have deer also. I see deer daily off the 241 toll road,too bad its Irvine Ranch.Hard hunting,hot,dryand if the santa annas are blowing...

From stats in dfg booklets Monteray Co. has the best success rate.
There are a few ranch hunts,guided and semi guided in the Paso Robles
area including Camp 5 Outfitters.Maybe a little too far south but
Tejon Ranch is hard to beat.

They do have some doe hunts in certain areas but they are limited to junior hunts.Some are bow or muzzle loader only with the option of a doe or forked horn or better.The only real good thing about them they are later in the year between nov. jan. Most of our seasons are early when its 80-100 degrees.
