Its best to use CCI's military spec primers for the SKS or any floating pin autoloader to avoid the slamfires that can occure if just a little resistance is produced around the firing pin... And I'd just go to Barnes TSX 123 grain .310" bullets for sks hunting in Kali. Yep, a TSX for the SKS :D...

Mine shoots the smallest groups with hot rod loads with the 300 grain Hornady XTP. H110 or W296 powder - 20-22 grains (check your reloading manual for "Ruger" data). Just have to see where your rifle likes em.

And that's a powerhouse too - about 1400-1500 fps.

http://www.xssights.com has the wings - but not sure if they work with the m71/86 sights - check the web site. They do list the sights for the 71 and 86 though. I think a Winchester 86 would fit the bill. Not the light weight version, the standard version with a longer barrel. I think they weigh over 9 pounds?

And as just mentioned, a Marlin 95 with a new barrel would add weight but I'd think the balance would be ... wierd.

I was just wondering - tin is used as an additive to lead for bullet casting. It's $35 for two pounds from Midway USA, but I'm betting that there's a less expensive source available.

yeah, I'd say you'd be good up to 200 grains - the twist used in most 30 calibers is 1:10 and they can handle bullets up to 250.

And that cartridge is pushing them out pretty fast, so that helps too.

If you want "more bullet" just go with an X bullet.
